Yoursay: Salleh, didn’t Jho Low decry Equanimity’s seizure?

Salleh: No proof Equanimity belongs to Jho Low

Res Ipsa: Just have some patience, Multimedia and Communication Minister Salleh Said Keruak.

The FBI is building up the criminal case against the culprits who laundered stolen monies in the US. In case you are not aware, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) asset seizure has been kept in abeyance to ensure the safety of potential witnesses and facilitate recovery of other ill-gotten assets.

In any event, what is the need for you to defend Jho Low by claiming that there is no proof Equanimity belongs to him? Are you beholden to him in any way?

Jho Low himself has openly questioned the seizure of the vessel and claimed that there is no proof that it was purchased using laundered monies. Does this not give the clearest indication that he is indeed the owner?

The seizure has been reported globally but there has been a blackout in most of the local mainstream media.

It is getting hotter by the day Salleh, especially with the latest expose by Wall Street Journal on the US$75 million demanded from Jho Low by a “Trump” intermediary to close all investigations.

Anonymous_b3cdcd05: If ‘fake news specialist’ Salleh is serious in wanting Malaysians to turn a blind eye to the RM50 billion elephant in the room and take his word on 1MDB over that of the US DOJ, mere rhetoric will not suffice.

If the DOJ’s colossal amount of evidence is baseless, what about the 1MDB-related prosecutions and convictions in other jurisdictions? And why didn’t 1MDB, and more importantly those implicated, in the alleged scam challenge the DOJ’s actions?

Instead of blowing hot air, if Salleh has nothing to hide, he must do the following. Show us the audited accounts of 1MDB from 2013 to 2016. Declassify the Special Task Force reports, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) findings, and the Auditor-General’s Report on 1MDB canned under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

While at it Salleh must also tell us why we caved in to the Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company’s (IPIC) demands in the recent London arbitration contrary to 1MDB’s claim that all monies due to Aabar/IPIC has been paid and the Finance Ministry’s defiant stand that it would challenge the IPIC’s claims at the arbitration courts?

Gerard Lourdesamy: Stop talking rubbish, Salleh. The DOJ has provided the evidence to the US court in its civil filings. If the allegation is not true and unsupported by evidence why hasn’t Jho Low appeared in the US court to strike out the suit?

The FBI also shared the information with the Indonesian authorities, otherwise the yacht would not have been seized in Bali. If 1MDB had no dealings with Jho Low, why are you going out of the way to defend him?

Why the news blackout on the seizure? Is Jho Low such an exceptional Malaysian citizen that every institution and organ of state is trying to protect him from the US and other foreign governments investigating the scandal?

No doubt, Salleh, you are the biggest creator of fake news and spin after the Trump election team. The rakyat are not stupid.

Low is being protected because of his close personal ties to Malaysian Official 1 (MO1), his wife and stepson. That is a fact and not fake news. Pakatan Harapan and Dr Mahathir Mohamad are not responsible for this mess.

Kim Quek: Readers may be wondering why Salleh is so daring and so thick-skinned as to make such a cheeky denial of what is virtually a universal truth.

Is he not worried about the certainty of a barrage of ridicule and scorn in the cyberworld and the world media that will surely follow his statement?

The answer lies in the fact that he is not talking to an audience like the Malaysiakinireaders, but Umno’s captive electorate.

Retaining the support of such electorate and winning GE14 is all that matters to Umno now; and to hell with everything else.

Anonymous 2436471476414726: Salleh, oh, Salleh, why are you defending Jho Low? Is he your brother?

Even Jho Low himself through his representative protested the seizure of his yacht and yet you said there is no proof it belongs to him. Whom are you really trying to protect – Jho Low or is it someone else?

Stop pretending that you do not know the truth when the whole world knows what the 1MDB scandal is all about and who are the main players. If the DOJ and FBI or the Indonesian police are wrong and Malaysia’s good name is being sullied, why don’t the Malaysian government send a protest note?

You blaming the opposition is nothing but an empty rhetoric and a vain attempt to confuse the rakyat. Be a statesman for once and fight for the nation’s interest and not the interest of certain personalities who are complicit in the alleged crime.

Anonymous_1421806811: Salleh, does it make any difference if the actual owner is Jho Low or one of his shell companies? Whether you like it or not, 1MDB, by paying IPIC, is an admission that their first payment went to a fake company.

Now 1MDB is struggling to pay its debts, despite what 1MDB president Arul Kanda or PM Najib Razak says. The money that went to the fake company has to be recovered. We know you are not smart but please don’t take us for fools.

Anonymous 788831449650206: In income tax cases, the taxpayer has to prove his income is not what the Inland Revenue says it is. The burden of proof is reversed.

Similarly, in money laundering cases, the actual owner can come forward and say the item was purchased with his own money. The item will then be released.

So far, no one has come to prove ownership of the luxury yacht. At the same time, about US$4.5 is missing in 1MDB. We can all put two and two together.

Rojak: Does Salleh really want to make himself sound like US President Donald Trump by screaming “fake news” every time he hears a story he doesn’t like?

There have always been stories whose veracity and details are disputed and everyone is entitled to ask those who put such stories out to substantiate them.

That does not mean the stories are fake news, which refers to a mostly recent phenomenon of deliberately fabricating stories to mislead people – and in Trump’s case simply ignoring the story when its fictional nature is exposed and moving on to another fabrication.

This practice is not at all the same as putting out an allegation with some research behind it. Surely Salleh is intelligent enough to know the difference?

Simple Malaysian: Salleh, by issuing such statement, you are only downgrading yourself as someone who has no clue as to what is and what is not fake news.

You do feed us often with such comical statements and pure satire to our entertainment. I look forward to your next one!

Gaji Buta: Some people hide all the proof and then walk around asking where it is.
