Yoursay: Hadi, ever heard of ‘no taxation without representation’?
‘Hadi’s Malay-only cabinet goes against our forefathers’
David Dass: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is putting into words what some politicians have been saying for some time. It is both Ketuanan Melayu and Ketuanan Islam.
Malays must rule and Malaysia must be an Islamic state. Is that possible? Put in such stark terms, we can all see why that is wrong.
We have a written Federal Constitution. Under that Constitution, we are all equal citizens in a constitutional democracy. We have a right to vote for candidates of our choice in both state and federal elections without regard for race or religion.
Freedom of worship is guaranteed. So Islamic religious principles cannot be imposed on non-Muslims.
To exclude non-Muslims from the government would be unconstitutional. It would be difficult to contemplate the damage such an idea would cause to the nation.
Ravinder: This country was built with the sweat and blood of the non-Malays as well as the Malays. So all have equal rights.
The government should be formed by the best of them who are born and bred here – regardless of race and religion – as all are Malaysians.
Hadi is trying to make this country into Talibanland and this must be strongly rejected. He has no right to change the status quo of the country simply because he is a “religious politician”.
Merdeka did not give any right to any racial and religious groups to lord over others and be the sole rulers. All who toiled to make this country what it is have equal rights to take part in ruling the country collectively.
Victor Johan: An all-Malay/Muslim cabinet in Malaysia scenario as envisioned by Hadi could become a reality if non-Muslims, meaning Chinese Malaysians, Indian Malaysians, Sarawakians and Sabahans, ditch MCA, MIC, Gerakan, myPPP and those BN component parties in Sabah and Sarawak representing their respective communities in BN.
Of course, his fearmongering commentary is only such because he’s affiliated to Umno-BN led by the kleptomaniac Najib Razak, who is already fearful of losing the grip of running the nation post-GE14.
That Najib is making Hadi come out with such pronouncements is already a sign of his desperation.
Now, my understanding is that such a scenario would not happen at the coming GE14 as the fearless rakyat are going to vote for the candidates selected by the Pakatan Harapan coalition parties where there’s representation for all.
Kawak: Non-Muslim cabinet ministers and MPs from Sabah and Sarawak are still in slumber. If they don’t wake up and speak against Hadi and PAS who are supporting Umno, they will be fully responsible for turning Malaysia into a theocratic state.
Ib: Indeed, if MCA, MIC, Gerakan and Sabah and Sarawak BN parties don’t speak up, they are as good as Nazi supporters.
But that does not mean Umno can remain silent. In addition, BN supporters in the business world should stop funding BN in the coming general election unless they intend to condemn the country to the dumps and move their children overseas.
Gotcha: I feel what Hadi said is seditious. He should be charged in court.
888888: Hadi is right. MCA, MIC and Gerakan have no role in the cabinet. It is only Muslims from Umno and PAS. And all ambassadors will be from Perkasa.
Interfaith council says ‘Muslims-only’ cabinet idea unconstitutional
David Dass: Hadi is flying a kite. He plants an outrageous idea to provoke discussion. The violence of the reaction works in his mind to his advantage. It creates a backlash among extremists. And they defend his idea however absurd it was.
But exactly how absurd is it? How many cabinet members are there? How many are Chinese and how many are Indian? How are the Indian and Chinese members chosen? Add to that, the less than five percent non-Malay civil servants.
And ask the question – how much racial representation is there in the government? Non-Malays are equal under the law. Freedom of worship is guaranteed. Islam cannot be imposed on non-Muslims. All pay taxes. Remember the American war of independence. No taxation without representation.
It is extraordinary that such views can be given so much prominence without any response from our leaders. it makes one ask – why the silence? But whether it is good politics or not, responsible leaders must challenge the suggestion by Hadi.
Clever Voter: Hadi’s outrageous opinion gives a glimpse of our dark future, and it may come to pass if BN is given another five years to abuse and misuse its power.
Dswam: And these people have the temerity to accuse Israel of apartheid. Chutzpah (such audacity) of the highest order.
Star chief meets empty chair as Pandikar snubs debate challenge
RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Parliament speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia, here’s a bitter and shameful lesson for you. Do not underestimate the intelligence of the people. Majority of them are more learned and better informed than you and the whole lot of ministers.
In future, do not simply throw challenges thinking that you and the whole cabinet of ministers know best. It is still not too late. Ask for another debate date to prove your worth. Otherwise, shut up.
Politician: Dear State Reform Party (Star) president Lina Soo, that Pandikar did not show up is no surprise. He is actually a coward who can only talk big in Parliament and shout at opposition MPs to keep quiet and give them marching orders plus restrict the subjects they can debate on.
Pandikar has shamed the August house many times over and does not deserve to sit as the speaker. He is just a puppet taking orders from his master and lives a remote-controlled life.
He may be getting a pat on the shoulder from the BN MPs but only brickbats from the rest of the citizens who frequently watch debates in Parliament over YouTube.
