M.Murugan – A common man stands his ground

suaramWe do remember the Hindraf rally in November 25, 2007, don’t we? We also do remember that hundreds of people were arrested on the day. A total of 136 were arrested by the police and were charged for illegal assembly. All pleaded guilty and paid fine except one.

Security guard, Murugan Muniandy, pleaded not guilty and entered defense. He was found guilty by the Kuala Lumpur Session Court on the 23 September 2011 and sentenced to 14 days jail with fine RM2000.

When asked why didn’t he pleaded guilty and pay the fine, Murugan said if I said I’m guilty for the charge, that means I’m wrong. I’m determined to be there because I have a cause to fight for. This lone fighter needs some acknowledgment from the civil societies out there. He is determined to defend his right to assemble peacefully.

Murugan is appealing the Sessions Court decision with the help from his lawyer M.Visvanathan. His case management for the appeal is as below:
