FMT LETTER : From Kua Kia Soong
So it has all come to this – Waythamoorthy’s historic compromise with Umno in the 13th general election. This must qualify as the mother of anti-climaxes and sell-outs – the petitions in international institutions against British colonialism; the challenge to Article 153 of the Malaysian Constitution and the New Economic Policy; the dramatic hunger strike…That has all been solved with a hand shake with the Umno supreme leader!
I could see it coming when I went to attend the briefing on the blueprint. I smelled a rat…yes, opportunism has a smell to it because there was no mention of abolishing the NEP and a new deal for equality among Malaysians. The blueprint could have been prepared by a less sleepy MIC. But the give-away was the demand for a Minority Affairs Ministry which had to be given to Hindraf. This was undisguised opportunism and presumptuousness of the most obscene kind.
Maybe they did hope for an alliance with PR but as can be seen in the horse trading over candidates, they faced competition from the Indian leaders in PR. They are facing the problem that PSM is facing now over horse trading for political power within PR. PR may well live to regret this.
But whereas PSM has socialist principles, these Hindraf leaders are ideologically empty in the head. They claim to care for the Indian masses but have now forgotten their analyses of their oppression and discrimination under UMNO rule all these 56 years – a complete disconnect between theory and practice.
Has Umno renounced the NEP, which is the fount of the problems the Indian masses and other ethnic minorities face? Of course not! This is a sad day for those who had hoped Hindraf could live up to the promise of their 2007 Indian spring…
Indian voters should unite with other justice-loving Malaysians and vote for parties that denounce racism, racial discrimination and oppression and are serious about a new deal for all Malaysians, especially the marginalised and the poor. The BN has misruled this country for 56 years and they must be voted out.
Bag to differ sir, the traitor sold out himself and a small group surrounding him not the Indian masses. Indians are no more with him and able to make wise decisions! He is a lone ranger now!
Waytha has somersaulted from his original position. Once he even censured Ambiga’s speech condemning her for calling that equal rights enshrined in the constitution. His argument is that Indians can never be equal as long as UMNO is in power guarding the constitution.
It is a sad ending for Waytha. First he cheated the masses that he can file a case against the British. He went and took refuge and now back in Malaysia to work with Najib. I am one of those fell for his drama and hunger strike. Indians can afford any more traitors.
The entry of Vetha to Malaysia via Singapore is a fast and what more his moves and stunts he staged ! As predicted he was lured by Najib and lost his nasib in the end ! Mind you most Malaysian Indians did not favor his action nor did they ever inclined to
support the Barisan …. There need to be a clear understanding on the actual political awareness among the masses ( educated Indians exposed to current political thinking : race – based politics ) and those people are ill informed and sweet talked to vote the Barisan ( people who are easily swayed by hand-outs
food items, cash and meals /drinks) . One need to expound the voting outcome of each constituency and painstakingly can work out how did the Malaysian Indians
voted in GE 13 . This is evident in the case of Uthaya who championed the Indians course and finally got lashed out in total! Malaysian Indians wanted a change this time and the election results are testimony !
