YOURSAY ‘Other countries jail ex-leaders for corruption. Should M’sia be different?’

Ex-minister: Dr M saving his own neck, too

yrsaysavingneck Nes: In any other country, this admission by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and now, former minister Zainuddin Maidin, will be seen as astonishing, to say the least.

Not that we did not know all along, but they are publicly telling everyone that Umno-BN is corrupted to the core and their internal struggle is not to save this nation and the rakyat, but instead to save themselves and the corrupt politicians from prosecution.

The gloves are off because now they have Pota (Prevention of Terrorism Act) and Sedition Act in place to deal with anyone who stands in their way. God save Malaysia.

Sirach: For a die-hard Umno apologist like Zainuddin to openly say that Mahathir could face jail time if Pakatan Rakyat comes to power, is the starkest admission yet that corruption and abuse of power is embedded in the fabric of the BN government.

It’s also an acknowledgment that this cancer was set during Mahathir’s administration. It’s curious that Mahathir uses the word “sympathy” when referring to the opposition’s stance on weeding out past corruption.

Are we expected to sympathise with those who have plundered the country? The country needs a total revamp in its governance which can only happen if BN is thrown out of power in GE14.

South Korea and Thailand, to name but two countries, have charged, convicted and sentenced or jailed ex-leaders for corruption. Why should Malaysia be any different?

David: Does it seem like the current regime has sympathy at all? Do they even have any sympathy for opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and his family when this regime persecuted him for Sodomy II?

Do they show any remorse for plundering billions and making the rakyat suffer with burdensome taxes?

Ferdtan: Zainuddin, we thought that you had retired from political writing. You cited a pursuit of peace of mind from threats, pressure and defamation in your old age as reason for your sudden decision in January.

Now you are coming back to politics; and it seems that you are subtly backing another horse. Much safer this side of the fence, is it not?

Are you telling your previous political ‘boss’ Mahathir to back off and not to prolong the fight with the present Umno leadership?

Malaytoo: Is Zainuddin admitting, while smiling at the same time, that Mahathir, Prime Minister Najib Razak and many others, are indeed guilty of offences that warrant jail time, and because of that, BN must buck up to ensure all these “offences” will continue to be covered-up?

Seriously, is he so morally bankrupt that he does not see anything wrong in that statement?

Mushiro: Zam is so polluted that he cannot see the difference between good and evil anymore as in his statement that “the strenuous urgings for Najib to buck up should not be seen as a personal attack by Mahathir but a call to action for greater good”.

He further said it is a warning to save Najib, Mahathir and all from facing prosecution for their plunder of the country.

Maybe Zam should explain why these crooked Umno leaders should not be punished if they are found guilty for their crimes?

Frankiepo: Mahathir said the BN crooks will be punished for their wrongdoing (read: they are guilty), and now Zam is saying that it applies to Mahathir too, meaning we have been ruled by crooks all this while.

Nangka: Does that mean that just about every minister in the past and present cabinet should be investigated for wrongdoing? I shudder to think.

Dont Just Talk: Bersih Malaysia and Pakatan should ensure that the Election Commission must get its delineation exercise right for the coming GE14 and that 51 percent of the popular vote means the majority and not 47 percent.

Cheat us once, shame on you. Cheat on us twice, shame on EC. When change happens, all hell will break loose and Mahathir’s worse fear of being charged in court will come true.

Kerana Benar: Not only Umno-BN politicians will be charged and put behind bars, the inspector-general of police (IGP), Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officials, attorney-general and others will also face the music for abuse of power.

If hudud is applied, some may even lose their hands for stealing the rakyat’s money.

Gen2indian: Proper and accountable democracies the world over risk the possibility of losing power every four, five or seven years through fair and clean elections.

If we are “the best democracy in the world” and you have nothing to hide, why worry about losing power?

SusahKes: These Umno guys are beginning to get overwhelmed with the prospect of losing power, so much so that they are starting to imagine their worst nightmares coming true.

In a sense, it seems that they are admitting to the fact that they all stand guilty of what Malaysians have been accusing them of.

PCG: Reading between the lines, it is confirmed that the current and previous administrations have been committing many crimes, so much so that they have no choice but to win all elections lest they be prosecuted. Sigh.
