And so Najib tells Umno: You help me, I help you
Second, this money is extremely unlikely to be a donation, but extremely likely to be sourced illegally from 1MDB, as judged from the coincidence of timing of the hurriedly raised US$3 billion bond and remittance of US$682 million to Najib’s account.
The bond proceeds were secured on March 19, 2009, and two days later on March 21, the first payment of US$620 million was remitted to Najib’s account.
There is no conceivable justification for raising this urgent bond at this time other than to meet the imminent GE13. Parliament was dissolved days later, on April 3.
Third, there is still the RM42 million sourced from Finance Ministry-owned SRC International and paid to Najib’s accounts, for which offence, six persons were arrested and their statements recorded. This is a straight-forward case of theft of public funds.
Fourth, the disposal of the huge RM2.6 billion (account closed several months after receiving the funds) could have given rise to multiple breaches of law, such as illegal and corrupt spending on the elections and theft of party funds if in fact the money was meant wholly for Umno.
It is obvious that, going forward, MACC will have its hands full to carry out a thorough enforcement of the law.
Odin Tajué: Now we no longer wonder why kickbacks are regarded as donations.
There is confusion as to meanings as illustrated by Najib’s claim of having performed acts of corporate social responsibility in distributing money to his party members and paying for haj trips.
‘Corporate’ and ‘corporation’ have to do with a business entity. Umno is not one but a political party.
Mushiro: Najib told everyone to wait for the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB, to wait for the investigation by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and to wait for the investigation by the special task force.
When the auditor-general submitted his report, Najib did not reveal this to the public. Then he frustrated the special task force by sacking the attorney-general and arresting many MACC officers.
He also stopped the PAC investigations by promoting the BN PAC members to ministers. Today Najib shamelessly declared the investigation on 1MDB is completed. How can Najib declare this when he is the accused and interested party?
Amateur: In February 2012, Najib advocated that funds for a political party should be deposited into the party’s and not personal bank accounts to prevent criminal breach of trust. Thirteen months later, RM2.6 billion went to his own accounts.
Clearwater: Najib, Umno leaders won’t turn on you if you answer the three questions on everyone’s mind. Who donated RM2.6 billion? Why your personal bank accounts? Where did all the money go?
You see, Najib, the Umno leaders think you held back quite a bit of the money. They feel hard done by getting only a relative pittance when you had so much in your accounts.
Vijay47: For crying out loud, Najib, you are the prime minister, so can you stop behaving like the bullying beggar you are?
You seem to have taken your famous Sibu call of “You help me, I help you” to new heights, strengthening the common knowledge that bribery is a basic ingredient in Umno activities.
You beg for support from Umno members not because you are clean and innocent but because you had allegedly shared with them some of the loot you squirreled away.
Then like the typical schoolyard bully when someone stands up to him, you wail for help from your supporters, asking them to, of all things, take to the social media.
We already have them here in Malaysiakini in droves and all that they have achieved so far is to both amuse and irritate us with their unique logic, repetition, and English. Maybe you should first send them to your wife’s Permata thingy.
Negarawan: “Many people could go for the haj, many divisions get contributions every month,” said Najib.
If one goes for the haj using stolen funds, is the haj considered valid or even sinful? Likewise if the Umno divisions receive stolen funds, then are their activities considered illegal?
Anonymous 847541435706261: I thought when a person goes for haj, the money must be ‘halal’. It must be honest and hard-earned money.
You mentioned that you gave money to Umno members and you expected something in return – that they protect you. And when you received the billions, the donor too expected something in return, right?
Until today the rakyat do not know the motive behind the very generous RM2.6 billion gift/donation.
Commentable: The rat is saying don’t question where the food came from, I provided and you guys ate it, so be grateful. Other rats from the opposite camp don’t declare where the food comes from, so why do you care?
But this rat is mistaken, people do care. For it’s not just ordinary folks who are concerned but some of his mates too are asking if they are fed with tainted food, food that has dodgy source of origin.
It is said to be from the Arabs but the only Arab one can think of who’s interested to donate to the rat is none other than the one heavily involved in 1MDB.
But it’s too late to regurgitate, so all must now play dumb.
And so Najib tells Umno: You help me, I help you
