Nancy must go to Parliament and vote against Hudud Bill
Nancy rejects Hadi’s Bill, won’t show up in Parliament for the vote
Vijay47: De facto law minister Nancy Shukri, you having never impressed anyone as being a person of any particular level of intelligence or fairness, you have now gone the next mile to display that you are also a cunning Umno-inspired politician who wants to have your cake and eat it too.
Good-cop bad-cop rolled into one. What rubbish is this that you are against hudud and will not even be in Parliament when the bill is debated and voted upon? Is this supposed to be some Sarawakian act of bravery?
Perhaps you believe that we will all stand up and cheer at your self-perceived stance of reason.
If you are indeed a woman of honour, be present at Parliament, emphasise the dangerous direction that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and hudud are taking the country towards and in no uncertain terms let all take note that you are dead set against the very idea of hudud in a multi-racial multi-religious nation.
Otherwise, just join the Bung Moktar Radin and Salleh Said Keruak gang. Of which MIC and MCA are already life-members.
Determined Sarawakian: Nancy, you need to be steadfast. You need to be there in Parliament and ensure your vote speaks for Sarawak, otherwise, everything is lost. We, Sarawakians, have to be united against hudud.
David Dass: She certainly lacks the courage of her convictions, if in fact her stand is based on convictions. Not voting against the bill simply makes its passage easier.
Anonymous 2353861441183710: Nancy, if you really are against it, you need to vote against, not abstain. Act with courage, not flee from a decision.
Rojak: It sounds like most people have more respect for someone who agrees with the bill and supports it, than someone who disagrees with it yet avoids responsibility.
And it’s tempting to conclude this attitude may explain a lot of Nancy’s behaviour over the last few years.
Pemerhati: It is surprising that Nancy, a Muslim BN minister, is speaking against hudud which Hadi claims is God’s law.
Is she not scared of incurring God’s wrath or does she think that Hadi is not telling the truth and talking nonsense?
We also have many top Muslim leaders who allegedly steal large amounts of the people’s money.
If they were scared that God would punish them, they would not be doing so. So it is reasonable to assume that these leaders do not believe in God.
But all these non-believing Muslim leaders put up a great outward show of being highly religious by their attire and actions so as to impress the large number of Muslim voters so as to win the rigged elections and remain in power and then continue with their alleged stealing.
Senyum Kambeng: How silly can you get, Nancy. The bill will be passed by majority vote among those in attendance. If Umno and PAS have the majority during the parliamentary session on that day, the bill will become law.
By not being present and vote against the bill, you are effectively agreeing with Umno and PAS. Staying away does not mean that the bill will not be passed.
No amount of explanation will justify your failure to stand up for your beliefs and the people of Sarawak against an act that is against the Federal Constitution.
The same applies the other non-Umno MPs in BN who fear antagonising PM Najib Razak & co and think they can go around it by staying away or abstaining from voting. You can’t have the cake and eat it.
Victor Johan: Abstaining or not being present to cast the votes is a blatant injustice to the Malaysian people who voted for the particular parliamentarian.
Should this unconstitutional amendment to the Federal Constitution be successfully proposed by a private member’s bill by an opposition MP from a minority political party in the Parliament, and supported by representatives from the majority group, we will have set another example of a negative dispute that will be dragged to and challenged in the courts.
Unafraid: Don’t be absent when the voting takes place. Be responsible. Be present and vote against it. At least for once, show us you are a woman of substance and true to your convictions.
Better still, rally the rest of the East Malaysian MPs to pluck up their long lost courage and do what is right and righteous as true representatives of the people who voted them in. This is your chance to redeem yourself.
As of today, sorry to say that we do not hold you with high regards as a woman of principles.
Vent: Nancy is being just as duplicitous as her boss, Adenan, i.e. say the right things but find a way out of it later.
So she will register her party’s protest against the bill by not being there, but she will not vote against it for fear of offending her Muslim constituents. At least she is more transparent than her boss.
Akdas: All MPs from East Malaysia should come out in full force and vote against the bill. If this is so, then there is some democracy in BN.
