Bigger ‘crime’ to keep 1MDB audit report under OSA

‘Probe Sarawak Report for breaking the law, cabinet to decide if to declassify’

yrsaybiggestcrimeFellowMalaysian: How could the audit report of a country’s sovereign wealth fund pose any threat to national security to warrant it to be classified as a secret document under the Official Secrets Act (OSA)?

And instead of investigating the matter the whistleblower has painstakingly gleaned and revealed to Sarawak Report in order to determine the truth of the disclosure, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak has instead called for an investigation on the whistleblower for alleged wrongdoing.

With dim-wit ministers like Salleh, there’s little wonder why Bolehland will soon one day become the backwaters of Asean.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: To consider the Auditor-General’s Report on 1MDB as being a threat to national security clearly means whoever decided on this knew the material was damning.

Was it ever going to be declassified? Yes, Sarawak Report’s disclosure may be a breach of the Official Secrets Act (OSA), but the bigger crime (apart from the alleged financial scam), seems to be the ferocious attempt to keep it undercover.

Ipohcrite: The cabinet would be wise to heed what law professor Abdul Aziz Bari had reportedly said about declassifying the 1MDB audit report.

Otherwise, the entire cabinet would be perceived to be complicit in covering up an allegedly egregious act of wrongdoing of the highest magnitude. And their infamy be etched into the annals of our nation’s history.

Oxymoronictendencies: Isn’t it interesting that it is urgent to find the “leak”, but seemingly not at all urgent to find the alleged thieves that the leak seeks to expose.

In actual fact, the complete lack of action by the Malaysian authorities to bring to justice any of the people involved in the 1MDB is quite astonishing.

And PM Najib Razak and his acolytes wonder why they have zero credibility!

Cmfoo: Salleh, if the government had been transparent, there wouldn’t be the need to play hide and seek with the truth. There will be nothing to expose by others, and nothing to investigate.

Instead of trying to shoot the messenger, precious security resources can better deployed elsewhere to protect the rakyat in light of the recent increase in murders.

Anonymous #44199885: The purpose of the OSA, and only purpose, is to protect key secrets and information of our country, the leakage of which will compromise our sovereignty and national security.

The OSA cannot, based on its current form, be used to stop the disclosure of wrongdoing by a public officer whoever he may be.

That it was used to classify the auditor-general’s report on a GLIC (government-linked investment company) displays and demonstrates clear intent by the government to hide the truth from the public and the disclosure of politically damning information about the PM.

Sadly, we seem more concerned with religion, race and the often repeated motivator ‘how much money will I be paid if I vote for you’ than the future of our country or the future of our kids. Sarawak Report’s disclosure will change nothing.

Anonymous_40f4: Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak can release the audit report on 1MDB and still get away with it and remain PM.

After all, 95 percent of the people are selfish, ignorant and got a ‘tidak apa‘ attidude, like those in Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar.

The enforcement authority won’t take any action as the people don’t care about corruption and the alleged stealing of public money.

Spinnot: “The government classifies certain documents under the OSA for the purpose of national security, he (Salleh) said.”

What has 1MDB got to do with national security?

Abuse of Power: “The investigation into Sarawak Report’s publication of details from the OSA document needs to be done urgently to prevent further leakages of official secret documents that may put the country’s security in jeopardy, Salleh explained.”

Does he mean to prevent further revelation which can implicate his boss?

Anonymous 1890491455255851: If only Salleh would show more rage against the revelations of the 1MDB audit report rather than who leaked it.

It is obvious that people are fed up of the cover-ups and will leak information that shows alleged massive corruption and the complete reckless use of monies in our sovereign fund.

If the PM was innocent, he should be the first to shout out loud that action must be taken against those involved in this whole debacle.

It’s very telling that the minister has not concerned himself with the content and only how it was made public.

Spirit of Malaya: Please bring back Jho Low! We want to throw a party at Sungai Buloh and we need his help.
