EC, what is there to hide about voter spike if all above board?
EC must disclose details of record 500k new voters
Kim Quek: This incredible jump of new voters in the last quarter smells worse than fishy.
With the Election Commission’s (EC) recent alleged gerrymandering and malapportionment through redelineation fresh in our minds, one can’t be blamed for thinking that this weird spike of voter numbers (from 94,000 on Quarter 2 to 502,000 in Quarter 3) can’t be anything other than a multi-prong strategy to sweep the next election by hook or by crook.
The EC must now disclose full details as outlined by Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming, if it wants to retain even a modicum of credibility.
Efforts must also be made to ascertain where these recent mass increase of voters took place – whether centering only on marginal seats; and look through names and identity cards (ICs) of these new additions.
Ong’s report should also serve as a clarion call to all unregistered voters to rush to post offices and registration centres to register their rights to choose the next government.
Such a patriotic act, though insignificant taken individually, may yet be the saving measure that would save the country from falling into evil hands again, if done en masse.
Appum: Obviously in any statistical analysis when an unusual spike in any data figures are shown and observed, there must be an explanation for it.
It is only right that the EC shows the citizens why all of a sudden such an ‘event’ has taken place. Surely the EC has details and data to show the cause.
What is there to hide if everything is done correctly? If the EC does not come out to show the reasons for this sudden spike, it will further erode the confidence the rakyat has in the EC.
These people in the EC must always remember they are civil servants and as such, carry out their duties impartially.
The current, or any current government for that matter, does not stay put forever. The more they deviate, the more they would face the music when the D-Day comes.
The Analyser: This article would have been a wonderful opportunity for DAP to promote their wonderful new approach to the functioning of the EC.
They might have started off with a one paragraph of criticism of the existing foul-up. Then they could launch into a full explanation on how they would address the existing problems and foresee any possible problems developing. But not so.
They go into nit-picking detail on every tiny aspect of the problem they have chosen to criticise. They offer no hope for the reader that matters would change under a DAP government. It’s no longer enough just to criticise.
To make any leeway with the voters, a political party must outline what the future will look like under their regime. At the moment, DAP’s image is one where a neurotic despot decides everything… usually to his own benefit.
Sound Mind: No point guessing, analysing or arguing. Just publish the names and places of registration as well as the ICs of the newly-registered voters.
It will solve the problem and we can focus on doing something good for the rakyat.
Anonymous 2408551459232350: Sorry, Ong, if cows fly and pigs climb trees, only then they will agree with your demand.
Minister claims CCCC not blacklisted, but World Bank sanction still on
Annonymous: These ‘ministers’ from the university of Umno have fantastic England; they swear that in the Scorpene submarine deal, the RM500 million received by an aide of the PM is not a kickback, it’s called a ‘commission’. The RM2.6 billion received in the PM’s personal account is not corruption, it’s called ‘donation’.
Now the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) is not blacklisted for fraudulent practices, it’s only ‘sanctioned’ by the World Bank. And the best part – Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was not arrested, she was only ‘protected’ under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
We love Umno defending the indefensible.
Retnam: Dear Minister in the PM’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan, whether the people are confused or not does not matter.
You and MO1 (Malaysian Official 1) can continue exploiting the country as you wish because nobody can do anything to you. Why waste time trying to explain something which is unexplainable and get mud on your face instead?
RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: “‘The World Bank announced the debarment of CCCC and all its subsidiaries, for fraudulent practices under Phase 1 of the Philippines National Roads Improvement and Management Project,’ it said in a press release dated July 29, 2011.”
Abdul Rahman, do you understand the statement above? If you can’t, then you are not fit to be a minister. It is as clear as daylight.
Justice Fairness: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is a rail project – not road or bridge – and it is not financed by the World Bank. Hence, this does not apply to the ECRL project.
Kit P: Justice Fairness, in the 180 years history of railway construction in this world, no one has yet been able to build a railway without bridges.
The World Bank blacklist was due to the said company’s unethical practices in bidding. It would be very unwise for Malaysia to simply ignore the blacklist, though it is not legally binding on Malaysia.
Merging and renaming the company is just another way to get around such sanctions. Malaysia should not be doing business with a rogue corporation.
Mushiro: Rahman Dahlan said the government is confident that CCCC can provide the best results and complete the ECRL project in a period appropriate with the scale of the project.
But the government was also confident that 1MDB will be flying high but yet more than RM50 billion has gone to the dogs and an additional RM30 billion will have to be settled through arbitration with Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).
Gaji Buta: As some minister put it previously, “Our values are different from those in the West…”
