Kula asks: “Vell Paari, explain why MIC could not be the hero in opposing Hadi Awang’s private member’s bill?”

– M. Kulasegrana, April 1, 2017.

KulaIn welcoming the BN Supreme Council’s decision not to push for the Shariah Bill, MIC treasurer S Vell Paari paid tribute to the late Sarawak chief minister Adenan Satem for his “heroic act’ in objecting to the PAS-sponsored bill.

“Let us not forget also the effort, commitment and firm stand of the late Adenan Satem who during his time as Sarawak CM opposed the implementation of hudud in Sarawak by taking into consideration the various ethnic composition of the state.

“The heroic act by the late Adenan gave strength to all the component party presidents to continue the fight in opposing the amendment of RUU355 by the government.”
Undoubtedly, the late Adenam Satem deserves credit for his clear and strong stand against Hadi Awang’s private member’s bill.

However, can Vell Paari explain why MIC could not be the hero in opposing the bill?

The whole issue started on March 27, 2014 when Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom had challenged PAS to table a private member’s bill on hudud in Parliament.

So why did MIC let the whole issue drag on for 3 years when it should have demanded in 2014 that the principle of consensus of BN should prevail?

In his statement, Vell has slammed DAP for playing an influential role in empowering its former ally PAS is pursuing the hudud agenda.

Hadi Awang had tabled his private member’s Bill in response to Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom’s challenge and this was how the whole issue started. So how could Vell Parri lie that DAP has been playing an influential role in empowering PAS in pursuing the hudud agenda.

DAP has been consistent and firm against the implementation of hudud in Malaysia. Our stand is on public record and Vell Paari‘s attack on DAP is most irresponsible and totally baseless.

Vell Paari has accused DAP’s national organizing secretary Anthony Loke of going around saying that non Muslims shall not be afraid of hudud while Lim Kit Siang has said the opposite.

“This shows that DAP will do anything and even lie to the rakyat just to obtain power and support,” he said.
Vell Parri’s accusation is totally nonsensical. He has obviously only been reading only BN controlled media news.

Anthony Loke had a few days ago publicly clarified on the context of what he said a few years ago about hudud. He has also reiterated his stand—that he does not support hudud implementation in a multi racial Malaysia.

DAP has been in existence for 51 years and we have been able to obtain the people’s support and enjoyed their confidence because we have never sold out our principles or the people. We do not lie to the people to obtain power and support.
