Let Dr M help change the course of history
Mahathir shares secret to his amazing health
CQ Muar: These are words of wisdom from former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad in sharing his immense and incredible health advice with others.
For a nonagenarian at age 92, who is able to deliver long speeches without signs of strain, it speaks well of Dr M.
We wish him continued great health in order to guide and lead this country back to where it should be. May God shower you, Dr M, with all His glorious blessings.
Lord Denning: Yes, it is more important to be in an Islamic state of being, than being an Islamic state.
We are Islamic? True Muslim leaders do not commit alleged grand larceny, indulge the rent-seekers and the corrupt, steal from the rakyat, and lead an extravagant lifestyle from ill-gotten gains, while the rakyat suffer.
Alunan Ombak: Remember, everyone can mellow and be wiser. Everybody changes for the better or the worse.
We don’t have a second choice to deal with the ‘chief crook’ and gang, who are plunging the country into a bottomless pit. Only Mahathir can handle the rogue.
Does anyone else have Dr M’s depth and breadth of experience in governing a country, however much we may dislike some of his past policies?
He won’t have many terms with his advanced age. Let him help all of us. Let him change the course of our bleak history.
The Analyser: Big men talk about ideas, average men talk about things, small-minded men talk about themselves and other people.
It’s a pity Mahathir couldn’t have been a bit more moderate when he was contemplating which of the human rights he would allow Malaysians.
It’s a pity he didn’t embark on a programme to instil moderation into his political cronies. It’s a pity he wasn’t more moderate in his abuse of religion to manipulate the Malays.
It’s a pity he didn’t think it was necessary to pass on his moderate nutritional thinking to the people of Malaysia.
In fact, just about anything you can think of that Mahathir has done, brings to mind, “It’s a pity…”
It seems to me that there is not the slightest evidence that Mahathir has repented because everything he says is just a repeat of Mahathir Mark 1.
Tan Chee Hui: According to traditional Chinese medical practice, eating too much will consume your ‘qi’.
Hence this will bring about chronic illness in the long term. Eating until three-quarter full is the best practice in maintaining good health. Dr M is a good example.
Anticonmen: Moderation in eating is good but you should also have been moderate in policies that would have treated all as equals and applied freedom of speech, religion and rule of law for everyone. That’s true moderation.
Reducing wealth gap can strengthen racial ties, says Dr M
Responsible Malaysian: Dr M, all of us know the problem, but you do not have any effective answer to it.
Wealth gap is a problem not just in Malaysia but globally. An effective education system and a caring society can solve some of the problems.
NNFC: In a competitive, free economy, there will be the rich and poor. I think that education level needs more emphasis to improve income potentials.
Welfare should only be for the poor, no matter which race. The income equality plans in this country has failed the Malays terribly because greedy people (you decide from which party) have taken the lion’s share and left the rest with kacang putih.
BTN: Dr M, I have to disagree with you on this. There is no way that you can ensure parity in terms of wealth.
There will be people who are gifted with special talent and obviously, this type of people will be more successful than others in terms of career and wealth.
Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, so everyone is different. Talent does not confine itself to one race, and therefore, you will find successful people from all races.
Many years ago, when you encouraged the Malays to have more children so that Umno will have the political numbers, you did not balance that up with a good education system to equip them with the knowledge and skills to compete with other races in this country.
If that was done, the Malays would have been very successful today and that would have spelt trouble for Umno.
Anyway that is history. Today, you will now need to put right what was wrong back then. This is your responsibility.
Rojak: Very few politicians – on either side – are willing to criticise the very large wealth gap among Malaysians in general, regardless of ethnicity.
According to the World Bank, Malaysia has one of the worst wealth gap in the region and it looks more like an African or South American country than a developed one in this respect.
Yes, there will always be a difference in wealth according to talent, luck and – perhaps most importantly – who your parents are, but if economic and fiscal policies allow it to get too large there will never be any sense of national unity.
Wake Up: It is not the wealth gap between the poor and the rich that is making things worse now. It is the wealth ‘gap’ within the rich who are greedy which will bring disharmony, not only between the races but within the races, too.
It is already happening and if anyone says he or she cannot notice it, then the person is just too ignorant or pretending to be ignorant.
