Dr M, you will be unassailable, but only if you repent

1988 judicial crisis: Dr M blames ex-AG for mentioning him and not Agong

your say1yrsaykingactsPemerhati: It was obvious to many that former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad was primarily responsible for the destruction of the judiciary with the sacking of then Lord President Salleh Abas and a few other top judges.

But the majority Malays continued to support him because he gave them ‘tongkats’. His successor, PM Najib Razak, has distinguished himself as a multi-billionaire, and he has also been giving ‘tongkats’ to the Malays.

Now both of them are competing for the votes of the ‘tongkat’ recipients.

The burning question of the day is, who will the majority of the ‘tongkat’ recipients give their vote in the forthcoming elections.

The other question is which ‘tongkat’ giver would be better for Malaysia. The obvious answer is Mahathir because if Pakatan Harapan wins, the alleged massive theft now taking place by Najib and his cohorts will end and Mahathir will not be able to do all the nasty things he did previously as the many principled members in Harapan will either stop him or quit and destroy Harapan.

Vijay47: I must remind you, Mahathir, that the support you are now earning somewhat reluctantly from Malaysians is because you can for the moment serve the interests of the nation and not because of any great contribution you made to the nation previously.

I am one of those reluctant Malaysians. It would be better if you stopped raking up the past now and instead look to the future. Even if you are being maligned wrongly on a few issues, your past sins are just too many to be swept under the carpet.

So don’t even bother trying, you will only weaken our cause. Are you suggesting that the honour and standing of the Malaysian judiciary along with luminaries like Salleh Abas, Eusoffe Abdoolcader and George Seah were destroyed because someone was displeased with renovation work sounds being carried out on some palace?

Why did you not use your pliant press to clear the air? You didn’t know the contents of then attorney-general Abu Talib Othman’s report? That defence is as credible as gifts from Arabs.

Clongviews: Indeed, debates and discussions on Mahathir’s shortcomings, mistakes or wrongdoings will not help Harapan in GE14.

Only Mahathir can take on Najib/Umno/BN. If Anwar Ibrahim and his family, who suffered the most under Mahathir, can work with him, why not others?

Give Mahathir a chance to right his wrongs.

Aries46: Mahathir, who is the head honcho then, had every opportunity to right the wrong and defend the victims, but did he?

Without the attestation of Salleh and Abu Talib, Mahathir’s claims sounds like all his others.

And who benefited most from the crisis? The deaf, dumb and blind? The one who enjoyed an almost unassailable ride thereafter? The one who plotted and incarcerated Anwar?

The victims of the era must speak up. Can Mahathir rewrite history after three decades?

Proarte: Mahathir has given us one good reason why he is not fit to be PM. He does not know the constitution and he is capable of telling blatant lies.

The Agong can only act on the prime minister’s advice and Mahathir was the PM at the time.

Anticonmen: Mahathir, you started the dismantling of separation of powers, independence of the judiciary and curbed powers of Parliament and the royalty, for the sake of gripping on to power.

Take responsibility, man. Najib just took it to a whole new level.

Rafizi seeks donations to avoid bankruptcy over NFC suit

Appum: It is very difficult to beat the present regime. They will keep victimising the opposition members and try to break them down.

We ordinary rakyat will be even worse off should the present regime come down on us. We need our MPs and assembly representatives to protect us.

We should donate to help PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli and get as many others to do so as well. Nothing is too little.

We can help him and others like him through crowd funding. Don’t underestimate people’s power. That is what we have. We are not here to topple the government but we want justice served.

Hang Babeuf: If the case is still subject to appeal, is not yet finalised, if that legal process is not exhausted, then it is an abuse of process to demand payment of damages at this stage.

Vindictive is the only word for it. It is the act of a sore, bitter and nasty loser in the “bigger game” that is being played out here.

But I suppose the National Feedlot Corporation need to pay their legal costs too, and this is how they are trying to pull in the loads of lawyer money that they need. This is a new “low” in national life.

Mushiro: Rafizi’s tough fight against corruption was done on behalf of the people of Malaysia who do not have the time, energy, resources and guts to do it.

Hopefully one day soon, we and our future generation can live in a cleaner Malaysia. Now that he is calling for help, we should all do our part.

It is important that this message be passed on to our friends and relatives and encourage them to help out.

Alanthechan: My small contribution of RM100 has been banked in. Tomorrow I’m banking in RM250 on behalf of my friends.

Rafizi, we thank you for your sacrifices and persistence to uncover corrupt practices. Not to worry, many people will support your efforts.

Anonymous_1395464675: I just contributed. Honest people like Rafizi, who have highlighted those allegedly corrupted politicians who stole our money, should be rewarded.

Whatever it takes, we will give Rafizi 100 percent support.

Kleptomania: Rafizi, you are our true hero, we knew you have no Arab donors, so rest assured not only will we donate, we will spread your appeal for donations.

Anonymous_4056: I just bank in RM200 to Invoke Solution Maybank account 5622 0964 0698 from Malacca. For your information, I am not a PKR member.

Thanks be to God, I have this opportunity to contribute a little to the cause of ridding this nation of corruption. Our culture of corruption must be wiped out completely.
