Yoursay: Despair driving MCA’s attacks on Dr M
MCA slams Mahathir – in front of Chinese ambassador
VGV: MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, what former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been harping on about China’s relationship with Malaysia is that it leaves much to be desired.
He is not a “stumbling block”, but many Malaysians are aware of our leaders’ habit of getting “commissions” from the inflated contracts awarded.
There would be definitely no sabotage from the opposition, Liow. But you can rest assured if Pakatan Harapan wins, many contracts with China will have to be redone.
Vgeorgemy: MCA must understand the public’s concern over the domination of China’s state investments in this country.
We were at the receiving end of the mainland Chinese Communist Party’s support for Chin Peng’s insurgency not long ago during the Emergency.
Our concern is almost the same as the suspicions of Chinese and Koreans over Japan’s involvement in the region economically and militarily.
MCA cannot ignore this piece of history and should not have belittled the former premier’s concern over the unfettered Chinese government investments in Malaysia.
MCA should respect the rakyat’s concern and should not have permitted mainland Chinese to interfere in our internal affairs.
Versey: “Liow emphasised that the relationship between Malaysia and China was not built on interest but genuine friendship.”
Well, to test out how genuine and sincere is this statement by Liow, China’s ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian ought to take the opportunity to ask Liow, why can’t former Malaysian Communist Party leader Chin Peng’s ashes be buried in his home country?
Moreover, my aunt, who was never Dr M’s supporter, told me that when she travelled to China in the 90s (during Mahathir’s tenure as prime minister), many Chinese in mainland China – even the taxi drivers – held him in high esteem and told her that Dr M was China’s friend, as he had backed China against the Western powers.
I doubt that Bai Tian, China’s ambassador to Malaysia, does not know that part of our history before his posting to Malaysia.
Hopeful 123: I can see all the writings in the photos (at MCA’s ‘One Belt One Road 2.0’ event) are in Chinese, yet Umno doesn’t seem to be bothered? They may not even know what it is all about.
It appears that despair can drive a person in all directions, without knowing which is the right one.
Most countries are very wary when dealing with any communist government. Whatever made Malaysia sign all these agreements with China? God only knows.
Gaji Buta: I wonder, is Liow signalling to China to interfere in GE14, like how Russia interfered in the US elections?
Vijay47: Over the last few weeks, MCA and to some extent Gerakan, have been carrying out incessant and savage attacks on Harapan and, in particular, on Mahathir. Liow’s latest statement is merely a continuation of that strategy.
What these attacks prove is that these two parties have given up all hope of getting any support or votes from the Chinese, so things can’t get worse and they can only pray that at least the Malays will bail them out come the elections.
Hence, all these measures to disavow any link with the opposition Chinese and to demonstrate that they are still unwaveringly loyal servants of PM Najib Razak and Umno.
Mosquitobrain: It appears that the MCA president really needs a dose of harsh words to wake him up.
As noted by Mahathir, where is the need for the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project if it does not impart any technology know-how to the locals, has a questionable return of investment (ROI), uses their own people and building materials from China?
To add salt to injury, all this is at a whopping cost of RM55 billion!
Ambassador hopes China-M’sia ties will ‘smoothly pass through’ GE14
Anonymous_82280536: “Nobody can deny the tie is getting stronger. We do not hope for the relationship between China and Malaysia to be politicised,” said Chinese ambassador Bai Tian.
What does he really mean here?
He is actually saying Malaysia has benefited China tremendously because of all the money they have made from us. No wonder he is so happy. But what are Malaysians gaining from this? Somehow this question is ignored by the powers-that-be.
Even Mahathir did not use to see a problem with China investments before but now he is raising complaints. Maybe it’s because he’s in the opposition now but so be it, if what he is saying is true.
At least someone is now speaking up about this matter which affects our sovereignty, but who is listening? That is the question of the day.
Hamzah Paiman: You hope the good relationship will benefit the people? Please specify which people – Malaysians or the Chinese of China?
If Malaysians are not going to benefit, then the relationship should be reviewed. We don’t want Malaysia to be another African country which owes China billions.
Vijay47: Thank you, Mr Ambassador, for your tacit acknowledgement that GE14 may result in a change of government. Otherwise, there was no need for you to express this fear.
