The UN Human Rights Council today adopted a resolution on Sri Lanka moved by the United States of America.
24 countries voted for the resolution, 15 against it and 8 abstained.
India voted for the resolution, while China and Russia voted against it.
Malaysia…abstained!
Speaking to the reporters after the vote, the US Ambassador Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe said that the US hoped that Sri Lanka “will now take credible steps to implement the recommendations of their own domestic reporting effort, and secondly that they investigate the serious allegations of civilian casusalities from the civil war so that there is a real basis of reconciliation.”
