The High Court here today rejected an application by the committee members of Bersih 2.0 and its chairman Datuk S. Ambiga to question Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein’s decision to consider Bersih 2.0 illegal.
Justice Datuk Rohana Yusuf who made the ruling in chambers further rejected Ambiga’s application to question the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the alleged 1,706 police reports against her and the group.
The Home Minister, IGP and the government who were respondents in the application were represented by Senior Federal Counsel (SFC) Azizan Md Arshad while the applicants, by counsel K. Shanmuga.
Azizan later told reporters that the judge rejected the application because they were filed after the deadline.
“The judge held that Ambiga should have filed the application within 14 days after the court allowed her leave for a judicial review to quash the Home Minister’s decision, instead of four months later,” he said.
He said the judge had also referred to the affidavit extension filed by Hishammuddin who maintained his statement that Bersih 2.0 was illegal as it did not abide by the law under the Peaceful Assembly Act.
The court also set June 26 for hearing of the judicial review, said Azizan.
