PSC a must even without black box, says Kit Siang

DAP-Lim-Kit-Siang-urinationMH370 Veteran opposition lawmaker Lim Kit Siang has urged cabinet to form a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) soon to discuss matters related to the MH370 crisis regardless of whether the plane’s black box is recovered.

Lim warned that the the black box battery is likely to expire by April 7 which would delay recovery efforts and delaying necessary investigations from commencing.

“It is not in our national interest to put off investigations and delay answers to the thousand-and-one questions which have surfaced in the past three weeks,” said Lim in a press release today.

He said that the public not only wants to know the “what, how and why” surrounding the disappearance of Flight MH370 on March 8, but also questions regarding the search-and-rescue efforts.

Lim warned that Parliament must be prepared for a multi-Parliamentary inquiry due to the many stakeholders from different countries involved.

“I therefore urge all MPs regardless of political party or coalition to be conscious not only of our national but also international responsibilities in the MH370 disaster by reaching a parliamentary consensus that a PSC on the MH370 disaster would be formed, regardless of whether the black box is retrieved or not,” he said.

He added that the PSC should be formed no later than the sixth week after MH370’s disappearance and headed by an opposition MP.

Previously, acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein had told the Dewan Rakyat that he agreed with opposition proposals for such a PSC but the ultimate decision on this lies with cabinet.

Thus far, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has not responded to this.
