YOURSAY ‘What now? Charge the Court of Appeal judges with sedition?’

IGP ordered to get child back or answer to court

igp StopMonkeying: Thank God, there are still some judges who dare to act without fear or favour.

With such judges, we are beginning to see some rays of hope for our beloved nation. God bless these judges and protect them from being sidelined or bullied.

RR: It will be a shame on the country’s leadership and the people if intelligent judges are removed for doing their sacred duty according to the principles of trite law.

In the first place, Islam should not allow forced conversion of children under 18 years by a single parent. The children should decide their religion on reaching maturity.

All these problems in court today is because the origin of the source of conversion to Islam is wrong and is against human dignity and human rights. Can’t the attorney-general (AG) and inspector-general of police (IGP) understand this simple fact?

JustAMalaysian: This is the best news that I have heard in the last two weeks. I have not totally lost my confidence in the courts’ independence.

I still harbour hope that the courts will regain the people’s respect and confidence. Lately they have shown good judgement and delivered good judgments.

Anonymous #63753867: What now? Charge the Court of Appeal panel with sedition?

Hplooi: When you hold all levers of power (administrative, executive, security, financial, legal) then you can truly be like Humpty Dumpty:

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.”

“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.” “The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master – that’s all.”

What happens if the IGP refuses to comply and refuse to appear in court? Since he is the police, he is not going to arrest himself.

And since Umno holds the absolute right to appointment of the IGP, he can (administratively) neither be sacked nor a new IGP appointed in his place. Therein lies the conundrum.

Anonymous_4031: No one is above the law. The rule of law applies to all people. That is how justice is served. Follow the law. Follow the constitution. Personal opinion does not count.

Civil war or public disobedience occurs when some people do not follow the law. The woes we hear and see in this world are caused by those who disobey the law. We need to enforce the law strictly.

Tok Karut: It has taken 20 years since the amendment to the Law Reform Act to get to this point in the interpretations and follow-up actions. That is one generation, but it has been done by sheer political will of affected women, men, lawyers and judges.

Let’s hope Parliament in its “infinite wisdom” – rare but not to be discounted – will not do anything to overturn this development in the law. God willing. A good tiding for Malaysia Day.

Sleepy: Based on the verdicts recently, is the judiciary ‘hitting back’ or is this a prelude to something big? Sorry for doubting, but can you blame me?

Senior Citizen: The person who should be appreciated most is none other than Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran.

Here is an MP acting as a lawyer for the poor woman who was helpless and had no one to look to for help. I am sure Kula has not taken money from M Indira Gandhi as she herself was in dire financial straits.

Kula, right now I have offered my prayers for you. I will somehow make it a point to visit you personally. You are one in a million. Please stay committed as an MP till the end of times.

Whatsup: Justice at last, or is it? If a confused and ignorant man can run the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), what do you think he’ll do to this latest order?

Anon1: And if police chief Khalid fails/refuses to arrest K Pathmanathan @ Muhd Ridhuan Abdullah including appearing before the High Court in Ipoh, who is going to compel/enforce his attendance? The Police? Sting? Stewart Copeland?

Vijay47: Malaysiakini, when I read your headline on this news, I was about to go out and buy some bottles of bubbly. Then I realised that the court order was in respect of the other Ridhuan, not the one who fits sedition to a ‘Tee’. Ah well, one out of two ain’t bad.

Anon1, good one, though I had to go to the Internet to find out who Stewart Copeland was. Personally, I prefer that the case be resolved and the IGP/AG sorted out by The Terminator.

MingXiang: IGP, arrest the Ridhuan fellow first and then arrest yourself. Either that or take the middle path and resign. How about that?

Odin: This ruling ought to confirm that Khalid is totally unfit to be the IGP – a fact that almost all of us knew a while ago.

The problem is that there is still the Federal Court. There is the possibility that he disobeys the appellate court order, gets charged and be convicted, but his masters will order an appeal and the apex court judges to find in his favour.
