Fight extremism? PM, you need to walk your talk

Najib vows to combat religious, racial extremism

yoursay-fight extremism Kim Quek: This is typical of a doublespeak, two-faced leader – swearing to fight racial and religious extremism at a gathering of Chinese community leaders, but praising the courage of red shirts for defending “Malay dignity” against the Chinese in a mass rally of ultra-racists and religious extremists.

Haven’t we seen the repetitions of such traitorous conduct too many times? In your case, PM Najib Razak, an act from you is worth a thousand words of promises.

If you mean what you say to the Chinese community leaders on Saturday, how about dismantling that brainwashing machine that produces racists and religious bigots known as BTN (Biro Tatanegara) which have cost taxpayers billions over the past years, and stop funding racist groups such as Perkasa with public funds?

If you do that, Najib, you may begin to see some restoration of public confidence in you, which, frankly speaking, is near zero.

Hang Babeuf: He vows (to combat religious and racial extremism)? The man will vow anything, even totally contradictory and mutually incompatible things on the same morning.

He vows – but will he ever do as he says? Words are cheap. Delivering on them is the test.

Unless and until he is prepared to tell Perkasa and Isma and all those cranks to back off – because they have no “traction” with his government and hence are wasting their time, and also to call Umno’s own Utusan Malaysia and its feral scribes to heel – his assurances mean nothing.

Swipenter: A case of saying one thing and doing the opposite. Everyone knows that without playing up race and religion, Umno is finished. Even corruption on a massive scale cannot unseat Umno.

Spirit of Malaya: I almost fell off my chair when I read this piece of news.

I’ve seen good actors in movies but our PM would put all of them to shame. It’s about time Hollywood pays more attention to talents in Malaysia. Finally, we have found a replacement for P Ramlee!

Odin Tajué: Najib, you are, in a sense, objecting to the very same things that you and your government have encouraged, promoted and aided.

I am not a psychoanalyst, but I am absolutely certain that your mind is all messed up due to your habitually lying, self-deceiving, and hallucinating. You have a severe mental disorder and thus are completely unfit to be prime minister.

But, unfortunately for all normal persons, you cannot see that, in the same manner a drunk would not admit that he is inebriated, bibulous, utterly sloshed.

Commentable: This so-called leader in Putrajaya is really asking for it and rightly so, he deserves all the four letter words hurled at him.

Just how does he intend to fulfil his vow that his government will combat terrorism and extremism, whether it is religious or racial?

By keeping quiet and doing nothing? By praising and congratulating the red shirts for a job well done? By praising the bravery of ISIS terrorists and saying his people should emulate them?

As usual, this man has no quibble uttering soft sweet words to the public that means nothing to him.

Vijay47: It pains me grievously to note how almost all the commentators here in Malaysiakini seem to delight in hooting and mocking and deriding you on your promise to “combat terrorism and extremism, whether it is religious or racial”.

They seem unable to realise the many demanding roles you have to play, that of Malaysian citizen, prime minister and finance minister, an MP and community leader. Why are they so unkind?

And that too just after your moving performance only a few days ago when you shed copious tears over the challenges you face in trying to be your father’s son.

Okay, enough of the Hindi movie screenplay (the Oscar nominations are already out), Najib, show your detractors that you really mean business, that you will fulfil your pledge at least this time.

For openers against racial and religious threats, charge the Low Yat, Kota Raya, and church rioters, return the constitution and civil law to their premier status and for immediate relief, return the children to Indira Gandhi.

Lionking: It appears the introduction of racialism in our lives and the nation is part of the national policy of BN. For the last 30 years, we have gone so deep in promoting racialism and wonder whether we can get out of it.

Some of the statements made by ministers and the action by some does not augur well in trying to combat racialism and not holding them accountable too.

Anonymous 25601436488297: Najib, first you have to show leadership and be honest with yourself. Stop using the so-called NGOs as proxies to play the racial and religious card. Walk the talk.

Old Timer: Charge Ibrahim Ali of Perkasa, Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman of Isma, Ali Tinju of the red shirts/Malaysian Ex-Servicemen Association, Mohd Ali Rustam of Pesaka – all of whom have threatened the non-Muslims, the non-Malays and the opposition.

Only then, I believe what you said. Otherwise, it is ‘cakap tak serupa bikin’ (say one thing, do another).

Anonymous 2388181451879878: I feel very sorry about what is happening. As a Muslim, the action taken by ISIS fighters apparently contradicts what Islam teaches its followers.

I hope other religious adherents won’t easily accept their claim about fighting in the name of Islam because the truth is that they don’t represent the followers of Islam.
