Setting AG upon Lim is like using a cannon to shoot a cockerel
‘AG leading case against Lim suggests political motive’
2.6 Bil vs 2 Mil: Of course, charging Lim Guan Eng is a political ploy – the speed and manner which they used to shame the Penang chief minister, and the huge bail and the attorney-general coming out to prosecute this RM2 .2 million case instead of the one involving RM2.6 billion.
Please, everyone knows and everyone can see it is a plot to bring Lim down. Hence the speed to raise the bail money from a very, very angry public. Enough of this tomfoolery, don’t make us hate and curse you any further.
Dont Just Talk: The joke in Malaysia and around the world is that a Penang chief minister is charged for corruption over the purchase of a 30-year-old bungalow for RM2,800,000 while the ‘681 American Pies’ man can walk around freely.
Use your head, and just count the number of zeros.
Paul Warren: For the charge to have come so far, surely the prosecution led by AG Mohamad Apandi Ali sees a fault that many others are unable to see. But can we take this character’s word for it?
Is he qualified to make that assumption and pursue these charges? The point is he was unable to see any wrongdoing in the 1MDB.
When the whole world sees that there is a wrong but he alone cannot, how come all of a sudden he becomes an expert in seeing a fault line here?
I think the discussion now should dwell on this subject – the capacity of Apandi to make any kind of qualitative assessment on Lim’s case, when he has proven himself a joke on the 1MDB case.
Ghostwhowalks: You mean the AG has nothing better to do than to give credence to alleged selective prosecution? How about looking into the charge sheet for all those involved in the 1MDB fiasco?
After all, from what I read six other countries are already looking into this matter. So what say you, AG?
Waktamnoko: When former minister Mokhtar Hashim was charged withthe murder of a political rival a few decades ago, the prosecutor at that time was the AG himself, Abu Talib Othman. No one implied that Mokhtar was being prosecuted for his political beliefs.
If Prime Minister Najib Razak is prosecuted now, would the DAP say that it was for “his political beliefs”? Maybe it’s true for the DAP, but shouldn’t they concentrate on defending him rather than trying to gain public sympathy when the charges against Lim are very clear?
PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim too tried this approach not once, but twice, but they still put him away. So, what’s so special about Lim that banners demanding him to be freed were the order of the day?
Don’t the DAP supporters know and respect the law? Or is the law only to be respected as long as their enemies are prosecuted but not themselves?
A few months ago, we had DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang having a field day taking a photo with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officials. What now then? They really should stop being hypocrites for once.
Cogito Ergo Sum: The AG leading the prosecution is like using a cannon to shoot a cockerel. An overkill. Or, he has no confidence in his own staff.
Anonymous#007: Thank you for this article, Mariam Mokhtar. You wrote what a lot of Malaysians dare not think out loud for fear of persecution by the long arm of the Umno/PAS syndicate that is all out to get rid of Pakatan Harapan.
Starting with DAP of course, because it is led by one of Malaysia’s most capable and transparent leaders by far.
It would be naive to believe all Harapan members are corruption-free, depending on how one wishes to define corruption.
But relative to the scale of decades-long alleged/visible/legalised corruption under the present regime – the Bank Bumiputra corruption/murder scandal, the Scorpenes submarine corruption/murder scandal, the 1MDB corruption/murder scandal, to name a few – Lim is a saint by comparison, and a great Malaysian leader.
Asitis: If Umno-BN think they can take back Penang simply by toppling Lim, it shows how disconnected they are with the people of Penang.
Penangites know exactly what you are up to and they do not like it one bit. They will remember this in the next general election. Do not think that if Lim falls, it will be the end of DAP’s rule in Penang.
There is a Chinese saying: even when the emperor dies, there is always a successor. If Lim is removed forcefully from office by the dirty machination of his political rivals, Penangites will make very sure that they install a worthy successor from among DAP’s pool of talented leaders.
Drngsc: Lim will not get a fair trial. New leaders in DAP must rise up and take over. Like Anwar, Lim is a martyr for the cause.
If Lim going to jail will help us win GE 14, then I believe he will agree that the price is worth it. It is all up to the people.
Goldee: Guan Eng will “fall” not because he was corrupt, but because of his success in spearheading Penang to new heights that no, I repeat, no one in Umno-BN can challenge. That is his downfall.
