MIC delivers self-inflicted black eye in row with Marina
Marina takes a dig at MIC for remarks on dad
Odin Tajué: MIC Youth chief C Sivarraajh, a thousand apologies, but I am not well educated and am a very dim bulb. So I am quite unable to follow your profound logic.
To my feeble, inadequately-schooled mind, former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad may have formulated and enforced racist policies, but he is not solely to be blamed for the current state of affairs.
Firstly, he has had the support of the MIC and the MCA when he was in power. Since his policies were abhorrent, your party and the MCA should have withdrawn their support. Why haven’t they?
Secondly, I have just checked. Mahathir stepped down at the end of October 2003. Since his policies were abhorrent, the next prime minister or the present one ought to have repudiated, nullified and discontinued them.
Why haven’t they? And why have your party and the MCA still provided your support?
In fact, under the current administration, racial as well as religious tensions have been fuelled and tacitly encouraged, and thus have exacerbated. There has been nary a squeak of protest from your party and the MCA.
Just within the last few months and weeks alone, Hindu shrines and deities have been defiled, desecrated and destroyed. And pray tell what your party has done.
And please don’t misread my intention. I am most certainly not trying to defend Mahathir.
Simple Malaysian: What has MIC done to correct the wrongs done by Mahathir since he left the cabinet?
What has the current leadership of MIC done to correct the mistakes done by its former leader, S Samy Vellu?
Vent: Notwithstanding the fact that MIC is a lap dog, Marina Mahathir’s silence on her father was far more commendable.
The disgust with PM Najib Razak and BN makes many forget that her father laid the foundation for all that has gone wrong with Malaysia since, in particular the draconian laws, the religious hysteria and the institutional racism.
Ipoh Pp: The least the leaders after Mahathir could do was to reverse his racist policies. However, Mahathir is now trying to save the country from the thieves.
So if MIC is blind and wants to continue to be a dumb slave and hang on to Umno for personal benefits, then it will be remembered for having failed the Indian community.
The leaders in MIC, MCA and Gerakan should look into the mirror and ask themselves why their own communities do not vote for them. The answer is obvious, isn’t it?
Mosquitobrain: MIC chief Dr S Subramaniam, you made a good point here. The previous administration has erred.
Is it not the responsibility of the present administration to correct them? One must be a real fool for following your leader blindly and instead put the blame on others.
Worried Sick: I just want to know what are Subra and the MIC doing for the Indians in this country? These people have let the community down and the Indians are floundering.
The crime rate among the Indians (proportionately) is very high and many of the youths are jobless to boot.
Subra should stop talking of the politics of others just for the sake of making his presence felt and start working harder to uplift the economic and education status of the Indian community in the country.
Anyway, the MIC is also a house divided now and I do not have to remind him that ‘charity begins at home’.
Anonymous 117651438093233: Affirmative actions by governments are necessary to address inequalities in a country.
However, affirmative actions must be implemented with integrity and transparency. Affirmative actions should never exclude anyone on the basis of race or religion.
Tan Kim Keong: Subra, why did you stop at Mahathir with regards to when racist policies were implemented?
I know it is not politically correct for you to say Abdul Razak Hussein. But history tells us otherwise.
Racist policies invariably started after our first PM, Tunku Abdul Rahman, was acrimoniously replaced by Abdul Razak (who is the father of your current boss).
Anonymous #19098644: Mahathir was wrong in weakening and subverting the institutions of state.
PM Najib Razak and his gang of unprincipled apologists are criminal in abusing the weakened institutions to repress the rakyat.
