YOURSAY | ‘Mayor, if morale has been affected, it’s because of your own doing.’

How many more ‘good officers’ are lurking in DBKL?

This mess has affected morale, rues KL mayor

yrsaygoodofficersyoursay-English38068738: “This whole mess has affected the morale of our staff,” said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz.

Understandably so. Life in DBKL was good with everyone from the top to the bottom allegedly enriching themselves. Morale was very high because every day was payday. Some even got promoted twice and received titles.

Then this 1MDB/MO1 nonsense started and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was directed to take action (against DBKL, not MO1).

Gaji Buta: I would be demoralised too if I just found out that there was a much easier way to make money in DBKL.

Ipoh Pp: Mohd Amin, if morale has been affected, it’s because of your own doing.

What were you, as DBKL mayor, been doing all this while. It’s because of your ‘tiada apa’ attitude which has given rise to this situation.

You have been sleeping on the job. Why else could all this be happening? You should be shown the door.

Kingfisher: Surely, the mayor means a positive boost in the morale of the hardworking and honest employees so that thieving of public funds and corruption in the DBKL will be effectively dealt with.

Or does he mean that the normal careless attitude and atmosphere has been rattled by the action of the MACC. One is left wandering as to whether he encourages accountability.

Not Convinced: According to Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, one of the senior officers arrested was a “good officer“. He was reportedly promoted twice in one year.

As MACC executes more arrests, the question to ask is how many of these “good officers” are there in KL City Hall?

Babylon: If you are a person of integrity and do not take or give bribes, your morale should increase. Only the morale of the corrupt will be affected.

Richard-D: Years ago, I met a designer who was working on a new kitchen for the wife of a DBKL officer. She was spending several hundred thousand on just the kitchen.

The kickbacks in DBKL have been common knowledge for years. Is the mayor suggesting he’s so stupid he didn’t know what was going on under his nose?

TC Chan: Indeed, this mess didn’t start yesterday. MACC should go back years and years. Investigate those who had retired also. They might be living off ill-gotten gains.

Anonymous_40f4: Yes, mega corruption in DBKL has been going on for the past 40 years. The rot starts from the very top Napoleons down to the technicians.

They make hundreds of thousands a month illegally, especially those in enforcement. There is no way anyone can stop the corruption unless there is a change of government in Putrajaya.

Indeed, many have retired extremely rich.

Headhunter: This is a good reason why all mayors should be elected and not appointed.

Anonymous_1388029052: Clearly, rampant corruption in DBKL has affected the morale of city folks, especially the lower income group.

MACC should continue to weed out all these scumbags who plunder the country’s coffers. Show them no mercy. Splash their names and titles openly on the newspapers and social media.

Ib: When big wigs like ministers or mayors are charged, then only will I believe the BN government is serious about corruption. When will we see this?

Anticonmen: DBKL is a gold mine for many senior staff. Many heads of departments who were in the approvals process for development projects retired very rich.

Other town and city councils are no better. They get paid not only in properties but also shares in developers going for listing.

Southpaw: The corruption in DBKL is not news. Only the naive ones would pretend otherwise.

Mayor, staff morale is boosted by cleaning up the mess

Anticonmen: Drains in Kuala Lumpur, especially in the city centre, are the most stinky in the world. There is no supervision of enforcement on businesses to keep their premises clean.

The only time we see them issuing summons is on unaware tourists being caught for mere crossing the road viz jaywalking near the Petaling Street junction and made to pay fines on the spot.

Analyser Shooter: There are city hall vans doing their rounds every month. When they stop in front of the hawker stalls, what happens? The hawker stall owner would “shake hands” with the people in the van.

This also happens with MBPJ (Petaling Jaya City Council) as well.

When you just catch the anchovies and let the biggest shark in the sea continue to swim freely, what do you expect people to think?
