For Bersih 5, a battle against corruption and hooliganism
Bersih and red shirts clash in Teluk Intan
FellowMalaysian: Out of the six start-off places that Bersih 5 has set out on Saturday, only Teluk Intan’s convoy was disrupted by the red-shirt hooligans who were led by none other than red shirt leader and Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos.
Though it appeared to be only a small scuffle, it reflects poorly on the police who failed to keep the two groups from confronting each other. This is a major oversight, especially when Jamal was there as instigator.
Hardboiled: Only a disgraced, desperate, and dishonest prime minister would allow such antics and behaviour to reign on the streets freely and without repercussions.
The world is watching these videos, Mr PM. How do you expect the international community to accept Malaysia on good standing when they see such aggressive behaviour going unchecked?
Ferdtan: The Light Strike Force riot police were at the location. So why were the red shirts not stopped from disrupting the Bersih walk?
Oh, again as in Penang, the police seemed indifferent – they did not take proactive action in stopping the troublemakers on the onset before altercation happened.
Red shirts were deliberately out to cause troubles; possibly to give the police amply reason to stop/ban Bersih nationwide rallies citing security?
Malaysians detest violence and BN will suffer the loss of votes in the next GE – if not Umno, then MCA and Gerakan will get the brunt of it.
Mushiro: Jamal and the red shirts are flexing their muscles to instigate the Bersih group to make a wrong move so the red shirts will have a reason to start some trouble.
The attempt of the red shirts to block Bersih’s function is an attempt to stoke fire. Bersih’s strategy to stay clear of trouble, whatever the instigation, is commendable.
Gerard Lourdesamy: Who the hell is this “terrorist” by the name of Jamal Md Yunos? Is he above the law? Does this country belong to the red shirts?
If the red shirts want to protest against Bersih, go ahead but stop this campaign of threats, intimidation, harassment and violence against Bersih convoys that are peaceful and law abiding.
The problem with our police is that they are very docile and restrained against any group that is seen to be sympathetic to Umno and the government even if they blatantly break the law.
This country belongs to the people and not to the red shirts, and the police ought to be reminded that they are the servants of the people entrusted to protect and preserve law and order and not pander to the dictates of a bunch of brigands.
Victor Johan: Umno leader Jamal had grabbed the banner from the Bersih supporters and allegedly landed a punch on one of the participants holding that banner.
Jamal is not just a hired agent provocateur but has committed criminal acts in public. He should be reprimanded and charged for these (alleged) offences.
He should be hauled up for attempting to create a riot. Is the inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar waiting for voluminous police reports be lodged before he acts?
CQ Muar: Is this what Najib meant by his transformation programme – silently allowing those hooligans to instigate the Bersih 5 group?
Najib must be blind to miss noticing it, and if so, why is he staying away and not instruct the police to stop these red-shirt gangsters?
Is our PM so desperate as to depend on these rowdies to stop Bersih 5 in order to remain as leader of this country? It’s obvious that he condones such unruly and disgusting behaviour staged by these red-shirt ‘devils’.
Honestly, do we ever get to see such ‘responsibility’ from a prime minister of other country for keeping silent over such disorder and disturbance?
What an exemplary leader of Malaysia. Free from wrongdoing and guilt? I doubt it.
Falcon: This is a wake-up call. Bersih 5 organisers should bring in international observers, an experienced security and tactical team to protect them against thugs, goons and terrorists out to create turmoil and circumvent peaceful democratic activities enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
Anonymous 1890491455255851: This is what Umno does successfully – create and support groups that have a rouge mentality and who thrive on the people’s ignorance.
I hope those who are a part of this truly poisonous party that is Umno will ask themselves tough questions. Can you continue to be a participant to such bigotry and idiocy?
Basically: There you have it, some senior ladies in yellow bearing flowers are a threat to national security and can topple a government, but these goons wielding force and showing ugly behaviour are upholding the so-called democratically elected 47% majority government.
Alanthechan: In a way, the red shirts are creating awareness of the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19 and their gangster behaviour, I believe, will cause more people to join it.
