YOURSAY | ‘I fully concur with former law minister Zaid Ibrahim on this.’

Would you rather be linked with Soros or those who plunder nation?

Zaid Ibrahim hails George Soros

yoursaysorosyoursay-EnglishTrueglitter: Much has been spoken on the subject of donations but regrettably, little has been stressed on the true intangible significance that are often attached to such charitable acts of human generosity.

For the sake of individualistic awareness and well-being of the nation, the highly regarded and world renown philanthropist, George Soros’ ennobled gesture of human kindness through his donations in the millions for worthy causes around the globe, should be greatly admired and deservedly cherished.

For Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to be downright ignorant to the point of being suspicious to beget his menacing threat to call for an investigation, especially when some donations and grants were deservedly dispersed to various NGOs and civil movements from the Open Society Foundation (OSF) of which George Soros is the founder, would clearly suggest that the Umno-led BN is on the mad rampage to demonise and demolish all its opposition in the run-up to GE14.

Headhunter: I fully concur with former law minister Zaid Ibrahim. We know former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad hates him, but Soros’ reputation as a philanthropist is well known all over the world.

He made tons of money and is prepared to use his wealth to help others. Wouldn’t you rather be associated with him than those who plunder the country?

Anonymous #13114320: It feels great to be helped by someone so far away. Yet, it is disappointing to hear that we have not received much support from local millionaires and billionaires. Sometimes it is shameful to hear that we are not helping one another. Instead, we depend on others’ generosity.

All these local rich individuals could have helped with some funding. But sadly, that is not the case. Big cars, big houses, nice handbags or watches, but no help offered… just lots of bragging about their wealth.

Maybe they don’t want to be seen as supporting the right cause or maybe some are part of the evil regime, which explains where their riches came from.

But if you are not part of the evil regime, then why is it so difficult to contribute? Why can’t you support with contributions when you probably know that to fight any good cause, you need some financial support?

So, try to feel good not by buying expensive stuff, but by making efforts to support Bersih or Malaysiakini, etc, through making some contribution.

Dr Suresh Kumar: Yes, eloquently expounded by Zaid. Most of our local billionaires are greedy capitalist cronies of the powers-that-be.

They don’t mind uprooting poor villagers and leaving them in a lurch while they rake in billions in profit in cahoots with corrupt government officials and ministers.

Some go overseas and get involved in illegal transactions to make more billions. Their ravenous, never satisfied attitude vaporises their hearts and souls.

Malaysia4All: Well said, Zaid, but we also need to qualify what a true donation is. If the funds go straight into a person’s personal account, instead of the account of the organisation, it is fair game to question whether that truly is a donation, or more likely, an underhanded deal/corruption.

In the case of PM Najib Abdul Razak, and the humongous amounts that went directly into his personal accounts, we are all left to wonder what those really were.

Of course, it is absolutely easy to show details of the transaction to prove one way or the other, and dispel all doubt, but somehow this was, and still is, not done in Najib’s case.

We are only told to believe the attorney-general, and can only wonder why…

Kingfisher: Very well-articulated on the merits of a moral threshold for the engagement of one’s honestly earned/acquired wealth for the improvement in the quality of life of others in a legitimate and gracious manner without any motives for personal gain.

This should shame those accusers of foreign intervention and especially those who clamour in the name of country, race and religion while plundering national resources for one’s person, family and like-minded friends.

A beleaguered nation has hope for better times ahead against those who are grinding it down a sinkhole when there is clarity and humanity in the rationale of Malay leaders like Zaid Ibrahim.

PAS open to straight fights, but with one condition

Quigonbond: It sounds like PAS is finally waking up to the fact that the opposition can actually do without them and they will lose out – so they are doing this out of fear, not altruism.

But folks, let’s not kid ourselves by prematurely celebrating. Not until it is crystal clear their idea of “home” is just Kelantan and not throughout Malaysia. Any seat they put outside Kelantan will be decimated.

If I were Harapan and Bersatu, I’d choose to ignore PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s latest move and still count out PAS in seats deliberations.

No point being disappointed later for any number of reasons, including PAS insistence that all Amanah seats are theirs, or some PKR or Bersatu seats are theirs, or all DAP seats are theirs (as per their earlier threat).

Goldee: As already said, they are a juara kampung (village champion). They realised that without the cooperation of other political parties, they can never win any seats in the urban areas.

History has proven that in GE13 the voters supported PAS because they were part of Pakatan Rakyat. The voters trusted former PAS spiritual adviser tok guru Nik Aziz for his agreement to Pakatan’s visions and struggles as outlined in our Federal Constitution and Rukunegara.

TimesAchanging: You can see PAS is playing both sides. BN didn’t get his bill debated in Parliament although it was on the original agenda. Now Hadi starts saying he’s open to straight fights… sending a message to BN.

At the end of the day, all he wants is to keep Kelantan and implement hudud. And he’ll play both sides to get it.

Hmmmmmmmm: I thought he threatened to challenge DAP in all the seats that they are going to contest? I guess after realising that even the mighty Umno Baru can’t unseat them, he’s now striking a conciliatory tone?

If I’m not wrong, I think DAP is already committed to working with Amanah.

Ah-Hah!!!: Remember Kota Damansara? Hadi’s son-in-law Zaharuddin Muhammad aka Din Ayam openly defied Pakatan Rakyat’s agreement on that seat, and nominated a PAS candidate and having his supporters wave banners right near polling stations.

Any assurance there will not be widespread repeats come GE14?

Wira: Basically, any honest government would be better for Malaysia than a corrupt BN, as shown by the Harapan-run state governments of Penang and Selangor.

The civil service runs the day-to-day governing. Just make sure the thieves get their hands off the kitty.
