Criminal intimidation apparently does not apply to Jamal
Red-shirts’ threat to tear down Malaysiakini? We’ll see, says IGP
Ferdtan: “‘(Red-shirts leader) Jamal (Md Yunos) has been making a lot of statements, but nothing comes (of it),’ the IGP said, when asked if Jamal’s threat was criminal intimidation.”
Is inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar waiting for a dead body before the threat is taken seriously?
Many opposition members who had said less were raided at their homes in the early hours of the morning. If this is not double standard by the police in dealing with pro-BN government supporters, what is?
Rojak: Syabas to Malaysiakini for demonstrating the efficacy of going higher when they go lower.
For patiently offering an explanation of its funding when that explanation was already available to any member of the public with basic literacy. For politely asking Jamal just what the threat to tear down their building meant.
And for not wasting time on the patently obvious, i.e. the question of why limited funding from the Open Society Foundation (OSF) for a limited part of Malaysiakini’s work could be thought unacceptable when huge funding from a non-democratic foreign power to ensure the ruling coalition wins elections is considered quite okay.
Democrat: What kind of policing is this? You mean somebody threatens to kill someone and IGP says, “Wait and see.”
Nonsense! And by the way, it’s the red-shirts who have resorted to violence, threatened to tear down buildings, and to harm people. Bersih does not do these things. Understand?
Victor Johan: IGP, your statement of “You don’t just ask me on only a (one) group. Don’t try to paint a picture to the public that it’s only one side causing problems” already shows that you are bias to Jamal, an Umno leader.
Yellow-shirt Bersih group had not once threatened to cause injuries and damage to anyone opposing them, whereas Jamal and his red-shirts leadership have time and again threaten their opponents.
IGP, you will be also held responsible when the havoc and destruction happened.
Drngsc: Dear IGP, what if someone threatens to shoot MO1. Will you wait and see if MO1 dies, or will you investigate to prevent the shooting?
Your logic is unbecoming of a chief of police. The whole country has seen how bias you are. Go uphold the law.
Malaysiakini has even found the relevant law for you to apply. Have you heard of Penal Code Section 503?
The Mask: Khalid, who is Section 503 for? For the opposition only?
We will remember your “wait and see” statement the next time when someone else makes a threat of the same nature.
Tan Kim Keong: This man’s avoidance in giving a straight answer is clear to all that he will not act on this criminal intimidation offence.
Section 503 is so unequivocal, yet he’s been dismissive about Jamal’s ominousness.
Gerard Lourdesamy: Unless people are killed, injured or property damaged, the police in Malaysia will not react.
But when it comes to the opposition and civil society groups not favoured by the government, the police will investigate and take action even without a report because they are a bigger threat to the ruling elites than even the Islamic State (IS).
Kawak: Don’t expect any action to be taken against Jamal. He has made many threats. Was he ever charged? Only his statements were taken by the police and he was detained for a day or two.
The red-shirts are Umno-sponsored. That’s why they so daring.
Malaysia4All: What is this crazy rule about the need to lodge a report for everything? Can’t the police act on an act of intimidation immediately instead of waiting for the public to lodge a report?
Inworldnotof: The evil annihilates among themselves. Let them self-destruct. We have endured for so long. They are at their most desperate.
At this juncture, the deer in the headlights has nowhere else to go. But even the deer is just an innocent creature. But not these people.
At their most desperate hours, they are also at their most dangerous. They will never want to confront and reasoning out with the truth, the rule of law, justice, right and wrong, responsibility, accountability and just simple common sense.
They are out to create chaos that they hope ends in anarchy. Steer clear of them today and every day and let them punch air.
Artong Penang: Are we living in a country which has a government of law or a government of men? When a gangster openly threatens to destroy someone’s property (real or perceived), it is a serious matter.
It is the responsibility of the police to enforce the law, not to question its desirability or the appropriateness of its applicability in a particular situation.
Anonymous_3ef7: Yes, IGP, why not arrest Jamal first – for his own safety like how you tend to do to others?
Anon1: So, if someone says let’s take top the streets and revolt against the clowns running this country, the IGP would apply a wait-and-see attitude?
Oscar Kilo: And why don’t you allow Bersih rallies, and wait and see what happens?
