‘Nation owes Mat Zain an immense debt of gratitude’

Former top cop files police report against AG

yrsaynationowesKim Quek: The police must now promptly act on former Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Mat Zain Ibrahim’s report against attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali, and thoroughly probe the latter not only on possible abuse of power but also on complicity and abetment of crime since Apandi’s conduct points irresistibly to an attempt to protect PM Najib Razak from prosecution.

Trueglitter: Our nation owes Mat Zain an immense debt of gratitude, which will be hard to repay by his emergence to file a police report accusing Apandi of abuse of power in connection with the investigations on 1MDB.

The scandalous and unresolved shame has plunged our national integrity and dignity into such dismal depth of disrepute and despair that only an individual like Mat Zain with said calibre of righteousness would provide the opportunity to restore justice to the people.

6th Generation Immigrant: Only an internal “re-upholding or re-swearing of the police oath” in the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) can anyone start the stone rolling towards law and order to regain its place in the country, irrespective of any form of political alliance anyone has.

Surely Mat Zain is aware (his police report can only serve the real purpose if and when the PDRM upholds their code and oath).

PDRM cannot function without the inspector-general of police (IGP) and AG providing the lead on behalf of king, country and people.

As it is today, like Mat Zain, people are all questioning any actions taken by the IGP and AG. So how does anyone move forward if the respective leaders cannot provide the direction and lead – Malaysia is already very famous for “not” questioning any authority even if decisions are itself questionable or criminal.

The PDRM and AG’s Chambers needs some other form of empowerment today and we cannot solely depend on the IGP and AG alone.

Behsaikong: If those who held, and those who still hold, high positions will now come forward and do the necessary like Mat Zain is doing, the nation will still have hopes of integrity and resolve to survive our present predicament.

Hibiscus: Now that Mat Zain has done his patriotic duty, Apandi should do his by reopening investigation on the 1MDB scandal, including investigating if the PM had lied when he said the RM2.6 billion in his personal bank account was a donation from an Arab or Arabs.

The DPM should also be investigated if he had lied when he said he had met the Arab donors.

Anon1: I have great respect and admiration for this man. In the present state of things, it takes tremendous courage and guts to lodge the report.

Let’s see how the senior brass in the police force respond to the IGP’s direction. If it’s another NFA (no further action), say hello to complete breakdown of law in Bolehland.

Najib’s secret weapon – the mute Malaysians

ABC123: Clever acronyms. Petty insults. Caricatures. Keyboard complaints. Facebook ‘activism’. Candles and balloons. Online petitions. Is this all we can do? Is this our arsenal against the power and machinery of Najib?

I don’t mean to belittle Mariam Mokhtar’s article. I admire her writings and I agree with them. But there have been so many of these articles from Mariam and so many other writers.

Each time Najib punches us, all we can do is take the punches and cry online. Elections? They will allegedly be rigged. Protests? They have come and gone and little has changed.

Opposition? They are arguing with one another over what little power they have and even over power they don’t even have yet. Save for a few, the opposition lacks ethics and brains.

What can the people do? Not much evidently. Are the rakyat that powerless? It seems so.

Anonymous_1429175092: ABC 123, what is your role than? With all the government institutions under his feet and the Malays willingly allow him to ‘perbodohkan’ them for cash and privileges and using race and religion successfully against the ignorant and gullible Malays, it is not easy to unsettle him. What more with those around him who have sold their integrity and dignity for position and cash.

Rome was not built in a day. Good will always prevail, though it takes time. The Malays in general have to wake up, the sooner the better, for only they can bring the change.

Aries46: Correction, Mariam. What is so secret about Najib’s weapons that allegedly systemically destroy the nation for him to cling on to power? Aren’t they the mute members of Umno Baru, PAS and the spineless on crutches? And what better testimony of this than the 51 percent rejection in the last general election on record?

Honestly, Mariam, how many Malaysians do you think would have read or been convinced by his gloating/polemics in The Sunday Star?

To many, the acronym ABC (‘Aunties’, ‘Balloons’ and ‘Cartoonists’) well defines his current desperation to cling on, while Malaysians are more at home with the US Justice Department (DOJ) acronym MO1 (Malaysia Official 1) as more suited for his premiership that has, among others, condemned the nation to international infamy and relegated it by 20 years or more that ironically substantiates his vision 2050.

Justice: Despite of the violence allegedly perpetrated by Umno Baru people against pro-democracy activists and those who exposed corruption and abuse of powers by those in power in our country, BN coalition partners MCA, Gerakan, MIC, PBB, SUPP, PRS, SPDP, PBS, UPKO and PBRS still eat, sleep and support Umno.

By supporting Umno, these coalition partners also support and agree with the allegedly violent undemocratic conduct of Umno. These coalition partners had completely lost their senses, morals and humanity. Even PAS had also lost its religious principles by failing to stand up against Umno.

The Analyser: I’m surprised that Mariam has overlooked Umno’s greatest strength – the weakness of the opposition. Let me suggest to you that not many Malays are so besotted with religion and repression that they would voluntarily vote for BN. Those Malays vote for PAS, they do exist, but in dwindling numbers.

Why did voters vote for Donald Trump, Rodrigo Duterte and Pauline Hanson? They voted because they thought they had something to offer apart from the normal format of government.

For the same reason, Malaysians will not vote for the parties of the opposition in Malaysia, because they have nothing of substance to offer.

There is absolutely no future in bitching about the dreadful things that Umno does. They can only do those dreadful things because generations of Malaysians have allowed them to get away with murder. BN leaders are now in a position where they are unassailable, so they do as they please.

Meanwhile, the sheep run around in yellow T-shirts bleating with self-righteousness. As Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah suggested, there are some very basic issues in Malaysian society which need addressing, the legal system, the judiciary, racial preferences, the role of religion in governance, to name a few. But nobody has the courage to face up to those issues.

In fact, nobody in the opposition parties has the courage to face up to anything. So, it’s back to the tried-and-proven road to failure – race and religion.
