YOURSAY | ‘The amended charge looks like a ploy to disrupt Suhakam’s inquiry.’

Yoursay: Suhakam inquiry on pastor Koh getting too close for comfort?

Suhakam suspends inquiry into pastor Koh’s case after man charged

Cogito Ergo Sum: Let me get this right: An Uber driver kidnapped pastor Raymond Koh by planning and executing a highly sophisticated operation after watching TV?

And he has already been charged in Petaling Jaya and there was no media report on the matter? Is that the gist of it?

Negarawan: This does not instil any sense of credibility or confidence in the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). There is no clear motive for the Uber driver to kidnap Koh.

It reinforces the perception that rogue police or army personnel were behind the well-orchestrated kidnapping, and that the amended charge looks like a ploy to disrupt Suhakam’s inquiry.

The inquiry was probably getting too close for comfort for inspector-general of police (IGP) Mohamad Fuzi Harun and PDRM in exposing rogue elements within the authorities.

Anonymous 7433800654341: Many people have seen the video clip of the kidnapping which showed several vehicles surrounding the car driven by the pastor.

Since PDRM is charging Uber driver Lam Chang Nam, they must have completed their investigation and are confident they have checked everything.

So, the simple and logical question is, why is only one person charged? What happened to all the accomplices who were helping Lam with the alleged kidnapping? Could they not get any information from Lam during the interrogations?

Why do I get a feeling that this charge is nothing but a diversion to prevent Suhakam from continuing with the inquiry?

Anonymous_1408265047: Quite clearly, with only one person being charged, the Uber driver is not the kidnapper. Just as clearly, the Suhakam inquiry, which was being carefully monitored by the police, must be getting somewhere closer to the truth.

Such a device being wrongly used to shut down the inquiry means that the police do not want the truth to be revealed because the truth would have far-reaching consequences.

MTU: So Suhakam is taking instructions from the IGP? Shouldn’t they actually be calling up the IGP and questioning him on this “fairy tale”?

Pastor Koh’s family shocked by suspension of inquiry

Donplaypuks: Is this an attempt to sabotage the Suhakam inquiry and get it postponed till after GE14?

After all, some six professional cop-looking men were caught on CCTV abducting Koh. So, where does a single Uber driver come in?

Anonymous_3e86: What are the authorities trying to hide? In the video, which the whole world saw, there were three black SUVs and the men who bundled the pastor away had masks on.

The whole incident looked like well-orchestrated military ops. Indeed, what has an Uber driver got to do with it?

Hplooi: The evidence does not even create reasonable grounds; a lone Uber driver vis-a-vis a well-recorded incident of the kidnapping in military-style operations endowed with expensive assets (cars and a posse of people).

How does the circumstance of one Uber driver versus the recorded facts of the kidnapping translate into a confirmed kidnapping by the lone Uber driver?

This is a clear attempt to silence the inquiry and Fuzi is now complicit.

Quigonbond: It would appear that the police and prosecutors are using the charge to stop the inquiry.

Kidnapping is a flimsy case when you cannot find the victim. The trail will now run cold and it creates the potential for a certain party to cook up evidence.

Surely there must be a way to dispute the legislation. A matter pending in court need not be interpreted as the only issue being investigated.

Wira: Lam Chang Nam is, at worst, an opportunistic extortioner. Otherwise, the police would have got to the whereabouts of pastor Koh, dead or alive.

Ex-Uber driver now charged for kidnapping pastor Koh

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Kidnapper found, but not pastor Koh. How ridiculous. Those kidnappers must be the stupidest kidnappers in the world. Koh is not even near a millionaire, how much can they extract from his family?

When the ransom of RM30,000 is divided among those seven of them, the amount could not even purchase a small Kancil car.

Anonymous 444981488553970: After one year of investigations, this is the best that they can do? One Uber driver charged? And what about the other seven with the SUVs – no trace?

I believe PDRM has some fantastic officers who can do a great job. Please help solve this for pastor Koh’s wife and children. Imagine their suffering and endless turmoil. What if it’s your family?

Anonymous#26191220: This entire case of the missing pastor amplifies the utter ineptitude and reckless disregard of the government to solve a blatant criminal act designed to instil fear into those suspicious of “proselytising” to Muslims.

It stinks of injustice, abuse of power and criminal cover-up.

Abasir: This must be the only Chinese Uber driver in the world with a highly-trained special ops team under his command.

The story that will unfold is that he drives an Uber just to kill time on the days he has no operation scheduled.

As for his motive, none is necessary… as declared by the court in the Altantuya Shaariibuu killing.

Vijay47: What is extremely distressing and frightening is not that the police story is almost a ridiculous afterthought, but the sheer arrogant audacity in coming out with this tale.

They don’t seem in the least bothered that nobody would believe them, the attitude seems to be, “Yeah, this is a tall tale. So what are you going to do about it?”

I would imagine that Lam, an Uber driver, is not very well-off and his accomplices, assuming for the moment that they exist, would similarly be close to broke.
