Kula: Bar Zakir Naik from entering Malaysia

Controversial Muslim preacher Zakir Naik from India  is scheduled to come to  Malaysia and expected to address several forums across the country, including in PWTC, from September 28 until Oct 7.

DAP Member of Parliament M. Kula Segaran called on the Home Minister to bar Zakir Naik from entering Malaysia.

“Zakir Naik is known to have made very unacceptable and insensitive comments about other religions”, Kula stated in a statement issued today.

He pointed out that Naik was denied entry into the United Kingdom and Canada in June 2010.

“Naik was forbidden from entering Canada after Tarek Fatah , the founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, warned MPs of Naik’s views”, Kula said.

He also referred to “A news report dated June 22, 2012 which quoted Tarek Fatah as follows:

‘We are very happy that government agencies, having been made aware of his statements, have taken this decision,’ Mr. Fatah said, adding that he sent a mass email to federal MPs last week, warning them of Dr. Naik’s views. ‘We certainly don’t want hate-mongers to come here.’

Pointing out that Naik’s views have also hurt the sensitivities the Hindu community, Kula said, “I am shocked the Malaysian Government has given him the visa to come to Malaysia.”

He added, “I urge the authorities to reconsider the sensitivities of the various communities and disallow him to speak in our country.”
