Kim Quek: Congratulations to the lawyers for this landslide decision to march for justice again.The country is indeed in deep trouble with the repressive Sedition Act being abused to persecute innocent dissidents on the flimsiest of pretext.At the frenzied rate such repressive dragnet is being cast, there wouldn’t be many important opposition leaders, lawmakers and civil society activists left unscathed in a couple of months’ time.

So, do have the march as soon as possible. We hope it will awaken the entire nation to the peril of deepening corrupt authoritarianism and alert the world of how PM Najib Razak’s “best democracy” is fast transforming into a tyrannical state, thereby averting further calamity.

Ablastine: Set the date and the time. The people of Malaysia will march with the lawyers against this hated Sedition Act which Umno is using to silence dissent.

If there are two million people on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, even tear gas and water cannons will be useless. We must show BN what people’s power means.

Tmf: Let us hope that this walk will trigger a massive civil awakening among the rakyat and remind the government that it is elected into office to serve the rakyat, not threaten the well-being of peace-loving rakyat directly or through its proxy.

Alanthechan: Bar Council, thank you for taking the initiative. However, this is a problem that concerns all citizens of the country because of the abuse of power by the government. Though I am over 70 years old, I would like to join the walk if allowed to.

Yes, all the other professional bodies should follow the lead of the Bar Council to show that virtually every sector of the society is against the selective persecution by the government.

We must not be afraid to do the right thing to make things right.

Jagara: When activist Adam Adli Abd Halim called for the government to be toppled, what the government should do is to reach out to the people to see what it can do to win over the mind, heart, and soul of the people.

Now it has done just the opposite – it and the courts have only further antagonised, disenfranchised and disillusioned the people.

For sure, more people will vote against Umno and BN in the next general election and rightly so. Might is not right!

Axolotl: Adam Adli should not even be fined, let alone jailed. Instead he ought to be given a generous grant with which to come up with a detailed wish-list of what the youth of Malaysia are desperately seeking.

A wise manager will always hire the smart and courageous and groom them to take over.

Only the utterly ‘bodoh’ and ‘kurang ajar’ ones will order their arrest – just like that brain-dead and syphilitic Sultan of Temasek who felt so threatened by a young genius he ordered the boy executed, for fear he would someday take over the throne.

FellowMalaysian: I have to agree with former law minister Zaid Ibrahim that we all should feel proud of the lawyers for fighting for our rights as Malaysians.

It is indeed a noble and venerable task which lawyers assume as their sacrosanct duties in defending our rights against laws in the country which are repressive and which suffocate democratic freedom and expression.

A salute to the Malaysian Bar for their indefatigable effort, which all caring Malaysians support with unbridled enthusiasm.

Doc: Maybe our super smart IGP and AG can round up and charge all the lawyers with “sedition” for plotting to march in protest of Umno’s beloved Sedition Act.

Maplesyrup: I am so proud of our Malaysian Bar. We ordinary folks who do not understand the workings of the law nor have the resources, really appreciate the Bar standing up to this and help articulate what we are not able to do.

Ksn: Instead of reforming themselves, the government leaders resort to this sort of mean tactics to stop the truth from reaching the electorate.

But what these incompetent people do not understand is that the action works against them as the people, being more educated and better informed today, are even more determined to throw them out of power.

Tok Karut: It’s good if the state Bars march too, perhaps Penang, Johor, Malacca and in the East, where they are strong Bar traditions and lawyers speaking out regardless of party affiliations.

Fair Play: Don’t expect other professional bodies in the medical, engineering and accounting profession to join in the fray.

They don’t think it is their respective collective responsibility to do so. You hardly ever hear from them. However, their members might do so as they too are right-thinking rakyat.

Chapati: Hats off to all lawyers for defending and fighting for our legal rights. Even bombs won’t scare them.
