Yoursay: By Salleh Keruak’s logic, we should just scrap elections
Salleh argues against changing gov’t, says not solution
Peninsular Rhino: Of course, Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak doesn’t want to see a change of government because he would be out of a job.
The BN government has given Malaysia a ‘Bad Name’ (BN) ever since the 1MDB fiasco was initiated by no other than the leader of the ruling coalition itself.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has described the 1MDB scandal as the worst form of kleptocracy. And Salleh wants us to retain this ‘Bad Name’ government? The rakyat are neither blind nor stupid.
Does Salleh want to see a full list of the scandals during Najib Razak’s ‘reign of terror’? The list is too long and Malaysiakini has limited space for comments.
Open your eyes, Salleh.
Vijay47: Thank you, Salleh. Once again, you have enlightened us on the finer points of democracy. Your unique grasp of this complex issue, I must say, is something hardly to be encountered anywhere else in the world.
But alas, you revealed this truth rather late – if only you were a month or two earlier, you would have earned the undying gratitude of the good people of Zimbabwe, who now unfortunately have to suffer the loss of their former president Robert Mugabe’s benevolent fatherly rule.
In fact, to advance your philosophy further, the entire world has to do away with elections, since you have determined that it is harmful to humankind.
I await with bated breath your next chapter on the wonders of life.
Anonymous #95676433: Salleh is pretending to be stupid. Malaysians want a change of government because we are sick and fed-up with a corrupt government, which has overstayed its welcome, and whose ministers and members think only of enriching themselves, instead of working for the good of the country.
See how we are lagging behind our neighbouring countries even though we have been endowed with rich resources.
SusahKes: America going through a crisis? Baloney! Just look at their recent statistics – jobs and employment data are improving.
The only apparent “crisis” is because the snowflakes there could not accept Donald Trump as their president.
As for the UK, what crisis? It’s nothing new that we have not been seeing for the past 30 to 40 years there. You know, the royalty (who’s marrying/divorcing who), low self-esteem at winning the World Cup only once, declining Britpop, etc, etc. That’s no crisis…
But RM2.6 billion inside a leader’s personal bank account, and to which no accountability has been forthcoming – now, that’s a crisis.
Wira: Any government in UK or US would fall if the chief (i.e. prime minister or president) is found with RM2.6 billion of dubious money in his or her personal bank account.
Moreover, no party in a Western democracy has even ruled continuously for 60 years. Corruption and abuse of power are bound to be institutionalised after such a long period of continuous rule.
Eagle: Indeed, if the 1MDB scandal had happened in the UK or US, their president or prime minister would have been sacked and charged long ago. By now, he or she would probably be serving a prison term.
Here in Malaysia, the ministers and the attorney-general keep saying no wrong has been committed.
We have a clear case, and all those who had facilitated the transfers of the money in Singapore have already been convicted or have been charged for wrongdoing. But not in Malaysia.
Maybe you should not compare us to UK or US, but to Zimbabwe. If we don’t change the party that runs the government, nothing will change. Even Zimbabwe did the right thing by kicking out the corrupt Mugabe.
VGV: Salleh, you need not cite other countries as examples when changing the government is unproductive. Malaysia needs a change after 60 years of rule under Umno.
Nothing great had happened in the past eight years under Najib’s rule. In fact, the country has gone from bad to worse. No one can deny it.
The country has been “plundered” during Najib’s rule through corruption. Many top government agencies are practising double standards by supporting the government of the day. This is very glaring to the eyes of Malaysians.
Tax-Payer: Salleh, it looks like you do not know, or choose not to know, or pretend not to know, that it’s not the economic crisis or whether your Umno can weather out this economic problem, that the people want to change.
It is because Umno is full of kleptocrats. The people are doing it to save the country from these alleged thieves.
CQ Muar: Salleh, the people are prepared to take a risk between a new government and the present kleptocratic government, which had governed for six decades.
Isn’t it obvious those Umno ministers, their families and cronies are living a life of luxury while others are facing hardship?
At the rate the existing administration is going, soon the country will be wiped out.
Newday: Salleh, no one ever said the democratic process is a bed of roses. On your wisdom, the government should never be changed.
So, we may as well be calling Malaysia a communist state, then?
