YOURSAY ‘How many percent of PAS leadership is in the dark?’

Exactly how private is Hadi’s private bill?

PAS veep: Hadi’s bill will confine hudud to caning

hadi Commentable: Husam Musa, you are vice-president of PAS and even you were kept in the dark about details of the private member’s bill to be tabled by your party president, Abdul Hadi Awang.

You claimed to have only found out the details last week after Friday prayers. So let’s be honest, let’s talk about how many percent of PAS leadership is in the dark. Exactly how private is Hadi’s private bill?

For a syariah criminal law that is going to allow hudud punishment to be meted out onto the public, this revelation is shocking. No wonder DAP and PKR are not supportive of the bill championed by Hadi. BN will be damned if PM Najib Razak supports it.

On another point, the hudud bill does not stipulate caning only, it also includes stoning, amputation of hands and feet, and even crucifixion. On what basis do you mean “we can’t implement them”.

If the bill becomes law, there is already no discretion but to follow the law strictly. Otherwise why have it in the first place? Laws cannot be vague, ambiguous and secretive.

Pemerhati: After the despicable behaviour of Hadi in betraying Pakatan Rakyat during the Selangor MB crisis, PAS now is being royally screwed and isolated.

Firstly by being criticised and shunned by its previous ally, DAP, and now by being played out by Umno for the second time.

Umno and PAS at one time were allies and thus seem to have the same DNA when it comes to telling lies and not honouring their word.

Aries46: As usual, it is not Hadi speaking. He prefers to stay in the shadows and reserve his right to twist and turn as and when according to what serves him best.

With due respect to Husam, is this what PAS has descended to? Don’t you guys ever learn? And while we are entertained by this latest twist to God’s laws, the inspector-general of police’s (IGP) recent warning comes to mind.

Khalid Abu Bakar had recently warned that opposing hudud amounted to inviting the wrath of the Islamic State (IS) and possible retaliation, and he in fact cautioned the vocal opponents to pipe down and that they do so at their own peril.

If not mistaken, it was directed more at radio station BFM and its journalist Aisyah Tajuddin, who were then under threat of rape and death.

Since PAS has now decided to water down God’s law to accommodate the political interest of Umno-BN, won’t IS now turn their guns at PAS and Umno, not to mention God’s wrath?

And what about BFM and Aisyah and all other vocal opponents of the extremities of hudud? Do they stand vindicated in Khalid’s book of offenders against God?

Proarte: If hudud can be changed or limited by human whims, then clearly it is not Allah’s law. Why is PAS backing down on chopping off of limbs and stoning to death? Do they disagree with Allah and if so why?

Why are they giving up the fight for full hudud? Aren’t they being ‘opportunists’ and ‘munafiks’ (hypocrites)?

Premarital sex is a widespread reality that PAS has to accept. There is no way that premarital sex can be policed.

Token public flogging will no doubt be carried out but this will be the tip of the iceberg, and it will be grossly unfair on the couples who are unfortunate enough to be caught.

It is also disgusting and uncivilised to be snooping on people in their intimate moments together. This debases humanity and Islam’s standing.

David Dass: There is no reason to extend the syariah to include new offences with stipulated punishment. We have the Penal Code. That is enough.

If PAS has suggestions to make for amendment of the Penal Code, put forward the proposal in the proper way in Parliament. In that way all will realise the implications of including such offences into our penal law.

Do we really want to make adultery, the accusation of adultery and the consumption of alcohol offences under the Penal Code? That law will not be applicable to non-Muslims.

What happens when adultery occurs between a Muslim and a non-Muslim? What rules of evidence will prevail? How would a mere accusation of adultery without witnesses constitute an offence under our existing laws of evidence?

Who would enforce such laws? Who would prosecute and would adjudicate such offences? Can we really have two sets of criminal laws in the country no matter how limited those offences are?

This is the thin edge of the wedge. Once the principle is conceded then extension of the law becomes a simpler matter. It is presented as a fait accompli.

That is why PAS says that the other offences currently set out in the enactment will remain in the enactment – to be extended at some future date.

The principle cannot be conceded. No hudud. It is unconstitutional. That is the principle.

Cmfoo: If what Husam said was true of the original intent of the PAS hudud bill, why the secrecy and not sharing the information honestly with other PKR leaders or its own PAS leaders?

I believe that Hadi did not expect the large scale outcry and rejection of hudud and the ambivalent nature of Umno support. Realising the magnitude of the problem and potential loss of support/votes, Hadi and his group of ulama now begin to backtrack to salvage the fallout. And to save face, they now reveal that hudud punishment is restricted to only canning.

Sorry Hadi, the rakyat has enough of your lies. We are not buying it. Shame on you Hadi, a supposedly pious Islamic leader but a two-faced liar.

Whatsup: So punishment can be changed and dictated by PAS and compromised by them as deemed necessary? And it’s not insulting or blasphemous for you all to do that?

Asitis: PAS, please do not play with our constitution. It will not do any good for the country but will in fact bring much harm. It is not as if our country does not have enough problem already without all the religious and racial issues stirred up by bigots.

If you are really in politics for the love of our country then you should cease, once and for all, all these political game you are playing with Umno.

And it is clearly a game for you. Please don’t pretend to be pious by saying that you are upholding Allah’s law. A law that can be changed as PAS like is PAS’ law, not Allah’s law. So please give up the pretense.

SusahKes: Your Kelantan MB has already submitted a bill at the state assembly, which prescribes stoning and amputation. Now, you are saying that Hadi’s bill would only include caning?

And yet, at the same time, you say that the more severe punishments would remain in the bill, but only that you cannot enforce them. Wow, just reading these alone, tells me, of just how inconsistent PAS sounds.

What’s the point of maintaining an enactment that you don’t enforce? Let’s not delude ourselves; this is just PAS trying to get away hudud by landing a soft blow and later when the frog in the water gets accustomed with the water temperature, they will turn on the heat.

Anonymous_3f94: They told us that these were God’s Laws. Now they tell us that they can literally chop and change them at will. Can we take them seriously? I think not.
