YOURSAY | ‘There was no compulsion in assisting DAP and Guan Eng, unlike paying GST.’

‘Guan Eng donation not burden, pre-Raya petrol hike is’

Lim’s donations from willing public, not mysterious donor, Umno told

yrsaybarangnaikMyviews: My, my, no wonder Umno is taking the country further and further backwards. It cannot even understand a simple donation in time of need, calling it a burden to the people.

We willingly donate and do not expect anything in return. It is not a sin or a crime. And for those if they feel they cannot afford to donate, then they don’t. So where’s the burden?

Let me try and elaborate further. Consider the payment of GST. If one doesn’t pay the required GST for goods purchased or services rendered, then one has committed an offence.

Like it or not, one has to pay, irrespective of whether one can afford to or not. Now that, is a burden to the people. Hope this is clear enough.

Bystander: MCA central committee member Ti Lian Ker, please read this carefully: “I donated out of my own free will”.

No one has felt cheated or shortchanged even if the bail money is refunded, as what was donated was a very little gesture of all right minded Malaysians to contribute to its war chest for GE14. It is very evil of you to make such invalid attempt to discredit DAP.

SultanMydin: It’s none of your business, Penang Umno deputy chairperson Reezal Merican Naina Merican, if members of the public want to donate for what they perceived to be a just cause.

1Citizen: If it takes 24 hours for the good citizens to raise RM1 million, how long would it take the same good citizens to raise 50,000 times that amount to cover our 1MDB debt, assuming that they were all willing and able?

In Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s case, the arm of the law was unnaturally short while in the other case, it is infinitely long. That is Malaysian justice under this corrupt administration.

Tailek: Their head honcho receives billions in so called donations, and they say it’s all kosher.

Fairplayer: Ti had better go home and have a good sleep first. He seems to be hallucinating with jealousy. Ti, we, the public, will continue to donate to DAP, to prove you and others in Umno/BN wrong. By the way, we are having fun donating.

Whatsup: Ti, don’t be jealous of Guan Eng. We are happy to do our part now, or even in the future. We contribute what we can for their sterling efforts in fighting for a better future, rather than being robbed and forced to pay now, and also by our future generations.

You and Reezal find it unacceptable, but can accept those blatant mega-billion corruption cases?

Anonymous #19098644: When openly corrupt politicians who take “donations” by the billions from foreigners are not even charged, what are these hypocritical BN members talking about.

When RM11 billion of public funds were fraudulently lost because of the Port Klang development fiasco and not even one person was held accountable, how can BN politicians, tell the people that the leader of the cleanest administration of all Malaysian states, must go on leave. If Najib is charged and goes on leave, then Guan Eng should go on leave, says S Ambiga.

Maplesyrup: I donated RM500. I want to help DAP, so DAP does not have to return the money to me after the bail is refunded by the court. If people were concerned about what happened to the money after it had been donated, they would not have given, and also not so speedily.

MCA can never understand how people are willing to give their substance to a political party, because this is alien culture to MCA. MCA never received a cent or free love from people, everything had to be purchased with free gifts, free food and money.

Cogito Ergo Sum: The unprecedented speed and quantum of the donations have shocked BN. They miscalculated the support on the ground that the DAP and Pakatan Harapan have gained over the years. As for the public hue and cry, that’s a figment of BN’s imagination.

And why should a man the people believe in, and whose integrity is not in question, go on leave on trumped up charges? Pray tell Mr Ti? You used to be one of the few respected members of your party. No more.

Spinnot: Ti Lian Ker, you think we, the ordinary rakyat, are stupid?

Goldee: Ti Lian Ker can’t take it that Penangites are in full support of Guan Eng. This is very telling and Gerakan can forget about capturing back Penang. Gerakan will be history like PPP, after GE14.

MariKitaUbah: To MCA and Umno, next time when any of your leaders get into trouble, try to ask for donations and see if any of you are able to raise more than RM1 million in less than 24 hours. I for one, will not donate a single sen to BN.

Allforit: Mr Ti, it is sad that you do not want to accept reality. You should try to learn from Gerakan Youth deputy chief Andy Yong, who cautioned against persecuting Lim.

The reality is that the people, especially the Penangites, are very, very angry. Don’t push your luck and assume that we feel cheated.

My family and I will keep on donating – we are fed up with all the nonsense going on – and to make sure DAP is financially strong and prepared for GE14.

Baldev Singh: All Malaysians should continue to donate to DAP to show BN that the opposition doesn’t have to steal the rakyat’s money.

AngryBird: Were we cheated, or not? I paid much more during normal DAP fundraising talks. I pay willingly to the opposition, but Najib and his cronies forcefully taxed me.

Little Sparrow: I am willing to donate to the party whether it is for the bail or not, is it a crime? I don’t feel cheated as claimed by MCA. Please don’t talk nonsense.

Who are the donors who told you they were cheated? After all, donations by the public to DAP are none of your business as we know MCA is a very rich party and don’t need donations from the public.

Even Umno is so rich, but needs RM2.6b donations from an Arab. Did you ask Umno not to accept the donations? Did you bark at Umno when Najib admitted he received RM2.6 billion?

Roger 5201: The public donated openly and willingly in the cause of justice for Guan Eng. What is particularly burdensome is the unusually large quantum of RM1 million bail money imposed on him during the holy month, when similar cases involving amounts of tens of billions of ringgit get off, scot-free.

Jismore: Me and my brother donated RM100 each. We are willing donors. Reezal, what is your problem. You are jealous, is it?

Wira: I made a donation through my private account for a just cause and I will do that again and again. I am not burdened. Now go take a hike.

Senior: You think if bail is set at that ridiculous amount for anyone from BN instead, the public will willingly donate? Oops – forgot BN is rich enough to foot the bail.

Dalvik: Reezal and Ti, if you can make noise over the RM1 million donation, I would suggest you to make 2,600 times the noises on the RM2.6 billion donation that your boss had received.

Shamu99: What burden? The increase in the price of petrol before Hari Raya is a burden. Why can’t that wait till after Hari Raya?
