Nurul, the simplest of us can do the greatest of things

Nurul: Anwar moved beyond personal suffering to shake Dr M’s hand

yrsayNurulyoursay-EnglishCitizen_Zero: Every day we have the opportunity to do good. Every day we have the opportunity to make things better. Even with the smallest of gestures. A smile.

Some people think they are better than others. Some people think and talk like they are cleverer, stronger, greater. If you are, then you can be kind. You can help. If not, you are nothing. Nothing but the black bile in your heart.

The simplest of us can do the greatest of things. Even at the moment of death, when we breathe our last, we can still smile and provide comfort for those around us to move forward in our mortal coil.

If you are so arrogant that you think you can look down on others and can’t even be kind, just go live in the jungle alone. Even the monkeys there will curse you.

Anonymous #12566075: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, you are absolutely right in saying it is “not easy” for your father to shake hand with his nemesis, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

This shows your father is a great man whom the country urgently needs to prevent it going down further.

Anonymous #37634848: Dear Dr M, I respect you a lot. I have read your book and I found all the chapters informative, except the one on ‘Anwar’s challenges’. Your verdict on Anwar’s sodomy charge is baffling.

You had listened to what was recounted by former inspector-general of police (IGP) Hanif Omar and controversial witness Ummi Hafilda Ali as the gospel truth. Your present nemesis, PM Najib Razak, also followed your script and Anwar is now unjustly suffering in jail. This is very cruel to him and his family.

You have an opportunity to correct it and your great mind should do the necessary. I have had an association with Anwar from his Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim) days.

He was young then. He helped thousands of young people to pursue education through his Yayasan. He did not sodomise them.

The witnesses you depended on have proved not credible since. I think this is the only major mistake you made in your life.

Dr Suresh Kumar: Mahathir is a dead man walking. Time is not on his side as all his minions tasked to bring down Najib have bungled big time. The failed Indonesian press conference was the last straw on the camel’s back.

For Anwar, it’s once bitten twice shy and Anwar is very well aware of the old fox’s game plan and who Mahathir is these days. After all, both are masters of deception on their very own unique ways.

Two politicians from the bygone era who were instrumental in destroying our education system and all the sacred institutions that are the bedrock of our constitution and our very existence are being relied upon by selfish, ignorant, gullible and naive Malaysians to save their sorry bottoms.

It’s akin to admitting that the opposition is worthless, irresponsible, untrustworthy, meek and weak.

Anonymous_1419577444: Yes, Nurul. We all saw that in the photo. It took your dad a lot of strength to shake hands with Mahathir. Likewise, it takes a lot of humility for Mahathir to do the same.

That old man is a very proud and egoistical person. Shaking hands with Anwar is considered “stooping down”, and if he’s willing to do that, it suggests he is putting national interest before self. My respect for both gentlemen.

Godfearing: Putting the nation’s interest first and sidelining personal feelings are clear signs of responsible statesmanship. Bravo.

Dr M: Destroying Langkawi eagle won’t make Malays more Muslim

Responsible Malaysian: Why worry about carving images to be worshipped as gods when we have already worshipped human beings as gods?

We have too many human beings trying to represent God. Every day they will bring you punishment for not following what they preach.

They say that they are the authorities, the God-chosen ones, the holy book interpreters, the God-enforcers and many more.

6th Generation Immigrant: Correctly spoken and well-articulated, Mahathir. You also pointed out that “Muslims today are more intelligent and will know not to worship statues or portraits”. This so true.

Does that not now indicate that some of our leaders (ministers, MPs and muftis, who cannot see through clever-people lenses), are real imbeciles?

Why are they allowed to even express themselves?

Hplooi: The brown eagle, whose natural habitat is the rocky mountainous environment of interior Langkawi, was chosen to be the symbol of Langkawi.

In America, the bald eagle native to the Americas was chosen to be the symbol of the new republic back around 1776. What’s wrong with that?

Factnot fiction: The real idol that threatens Muslim Malaysians is corruption. And that needs to be destroyed. So Muslims, rise up and destroy corrupt leaders and parties.

Oscar Kilo: Yes, nowadays people worship money.

Dr M’s handshake – magnanimity or cold calculated pragmatism?
